As far as I'm aware, professional footballers are employess of the club and should be taxed under PAYE/NIC on their earnings. As employees, they are also covered under UK employment legislation for such things as SSP, SPP, etc. It's when to get to such things as image rights, EBTs, etc, that rules become more "elastic", which causes much more interest from HMRC specialists. (I used to be one until I retired 13 years ago)
A retired tax inspector.?! Really intrigued about your username now ; )

Find their treatment of Martial and the birth of his son bizarre in the extreme and a PR disaster for the club. The man's taken a week off to be with his family during pre-season, he's missed no games of any consequence in order to be with his family during one of the most important moments of his life. However you look at it, being a footballer is the same as any other job and he's entitled to spend time with his family after the birth of a child, especially his first. Other players must be looking at Mou and thinking he's an utter prick for castigating Martial so much. I have no doubt that Martial might have come back a lot sooner if there was a CL final a few days later, or if he actually sees a future for himself at the club.
So do you think there is any chance of him naming his son Jose ...

Are they going to sign anyone else? I really don't see how adding Fred and Dalot is going to get them any closer to the title.

The fact that Pep is a far superior individual in every way can't be helping.

It's not just football in which Pep holds the upper hand: he acts with a quiet dignity, an air of sophistication about him. He is a very very stylish man, respected by his peers and loved by many - not just by us and Barca fans.

Maureen's reputation is in tatters. He is generally disliked wherever he goes, even by his own club supporters. He is churlish, petulant and appears to be suffering with the Napoleon complex.

Pep could walk into ANY managerial position he chooses. Maureen could not.

Just let’s remind ourselves again of that smug twat Patrick Barclay’s solemnly voiced opinion that, when the Not Very Special One Anymore became manager of the Rags, Pep would be wishing he could tear up his contract with City. Another triumph for well-judged journalistic comment, eh, Paddy?

Barclay, Castles, Custis, Simon Stone...biased fuckers to a man. Cannot bear to see their beloved rags playing second fiddle to us.

Fuck 'em all.

I wonder if he ever got his head out of Baconface's backside, or are we not allowed to call him that anymore?
