Very naïve then, Cook isn't going to come out and say they are all money grabbers are they. Christ

What the fuck is wrong with you? Do you enjoy trying to wind up other posters?

This is what Cook said about Yaya:

Yaya Toure is the true talisman of Manchester City’s emergence as a major footballing force.

Ex-City chief executive Garry Cook lavished a fortune on players in the aftermath of Sheikh Mansour’s 2008 takeover.

Cook sanctioned a £32m deal for Brazilian superstar Robinho and he landed Carlos Tevez the next year.

But Cook rates getting Toure as the best piece of business he ever did – and insists the Ivorian didn’t leave Barcelona for the £200,000-a-week wages.

“Yaya Toure was the one player who became the catalyst for change at the football club,” said Cook.

“He has become City’s talisman. The popular perception is that we signed Robinho and Carlos Tevez to attract other players to the club.

“But both of those guys were in it for what they could get rather than what they could do for City.

“Yaya was different. He came and said, ‘I’m going to make this club great’. He was THE ONE. After we signed him, every top player began to see the possibilities at City.

“David Silva, for example. If we hadn’t signed Yaya, I don’t think David would have come.

"Once we signed Yaya, all the others followed. He was like a Pied Piper."[\quote]

Why are we even discussing what Utd players we would want to come and make City better?

First of all, it's a short list; second, there is no one on said list who is a guaranteed lock given how Pep wants to play; and third, fuck 'em, I don't want to have to start liking any of them. Which of them are actually likable anyhow no matter who they played for?

What makes the current nuclear meltdown so enjoyable isn't so much that it's happening but that it was all so predictable. And I mean since Ferguson left. I knew this, and so did a lot of others, and we said so, and we've been right.

There was never a "United way." It was a Ferguson way. Yet so many Utd fans continue to labor under the delusion that players or managers or whatnot "aren't good enough for Manchester United" or "don't play the United way."

The United way IS Mourinho, Woodward and the Glazers until it ISN'T, idiots.

In all honesty would you have Pogba here? I'm not saying we should go and make him a target but no one can deny he was brilliant at the world cup. With a top manager and an arm round his shoulder I think he could be decent in the prem...

He was nowhere near brilliant, at the World Cup. He was pretty anonymous in a lot of the earlier games and had a few standout moments thereafter.

A big reason why you cannot go by stats, he's a talented player. If we went by stats few would've touched Salah after Chelsea much less De Bruyne. How you are used figures heavily into stats.

You put Rashford into City with Pep and you have a vastly different result

Aye. A fucking broken nose ;-)

It’s you who is being naïve.

Or a WUM.

Pogba v Peg......the power struggle. This is all about egos now and who will bow down first. Player power, or is the manager the "Boss". Who will break first? Pogba either wants out or stays if Peg goes. Who will the players stand by? I can see a few downing tools to side with the player. A loss to West Ham at the weekend and I can see chaos around the corner. Happy days.

Most people have more than one motive when they seek employment and although money undoubtedly often plays a part I doubt it was the sole part in Yaya's decision and the project was important as a selling point too him,
Just about all Yaya's public actions indicate that he is concerned about how he is perceived as a player, being African player of the year was important to him not getting player of the year was seen as a slight. He had just seen his place in the Barca team usurped by the then little known Busquets , I would be amazed if his pride wasn't hurt. He would want to be seen to be achieving in another team , if we had sold the idea to him purely as a monetary proposition he would have been far less interested than as a proposition of a team striving for top honours where he could be the main man.
Even now he would rather go to Greece than China where the money is undoubtedly bigger for a player of his stature.
I don't think he would have come to us if we hadn't offered big money but I also doubt he would have come if that was all we offered.

Admirable you would believe that, he is selfish nothing else. His actions have proved how selfish he is. He left the best team in the world to go to a team who hadn't won anything in a long time who was playing in the UEFA Cup. Everyone is saying Sanchez is a mercenary (which he is) but at least he went to a team higher up whilst getting paid more. I'd love to believe players bought into "the project" but realistically the success is an added bonus.
