Arrogance was their Achilles heel, they thought that just by being Manchester United they would maintain the status quo in English football. They mocked us when the Sheikh took over, no top players would want to play for us even with all the money they would get paid apparently. ‘Not in my lifetime’ the ramblings of a scared Fergie who knew what was coming and got out early before we could completely crush him into the ground.

They haven’t adjusted to the challenge and are being swallowed up by the clubs who have. Wolves will be finishing higher than this shower in the coming seasons as they have a plan. The rags don’t.

Getting kicked out of CL early, not doing well in EL
Missing out on CL ( and EL) for 19/20
No cup runs
Reduced PL TV games this year
Massive wages bill
Many players into last year of contracts, wanting parity/increases
Massively increased previous transfer payments still owed
Manager sacking payoff
Commercial revenue growth stalled
Match day income further declined
no nvestment in club infrastructure
Dividends still shipped to Virgin/cayman Islands

Good summary of potential scenario which is close to being the actual scenario.

The worst result for them this week was not West Ham but their virtual zero revenue growth. This is in stark contrast to City, Liverpool and Spurs who have or will soon post huge increases.
The possible fallout from finishing outside the top 4 this season must be giving Woodward and Glazers nightmares. It could amount to more than 100 mil revenue loss if you cost in CL prize money, gate receipts, reduced sponsorship money, drop in merchandising and the associated spin-offs.

Don't think they will go into liquidation but a major downsizing would occur. I think the big question is how much funding would the Glazers be prepared to sanction in the event of the above scenario. Share prices are already plummeting.

Not to sure about that, Peg was hardly inundated with offers and his own opinion of himself, may have thought he would never finish outside the top 4 with the rags.

I see it as a game of Russian roulette. He and the Hierarchy want him to leave but the 1st to blink loses. So both will play their part in this crazy game till one or the other or both are ready to swallow their pride. I`m sure United want a none disclosure agreement but will have to pay for it.

I think you're right.

It'll be cheaper to sack him than miss out on CL qualification, reduced merchandising etc.

Whether a firm decision has already been taken or whether Peg will be given a month more to "turn it round" is not certain.

If I had to guess, a decision has already been made to fire him. But the question of when and his replacement may not be resolved but I'm sure of one thing: When there's every likelihood of the club not finishing in top 4, these decisions will be taken and rapidly.
