Just to lighten the mood for a minute, a traditional United fan's response to the club's new spirits partner:

@PercyToplis

Every day you whore the legend of our club to anyone prepared to offer up cash. Meanwhile you rip the very soul of the club to shreds. A curse on your house, the Glazers, the Regime of disgusting bastards running the club and the soulless automatons writing this Marketing shite

An iconic blend, for an iconic moment.

The rags are now two points behind Leicester and Wolves and three behind Bournemouth and Watford.

Think it was Bill Edgar on The Times podcast who suggested that they should appoint Giggs as Mourinho's replacement. Gab Marcotti was trying not to laugh but I for one would be fully behind it.

I think that's harsh. Van Gaal got slated because at the time City were in the ascendancy but the press were also helping sew the seeds for Jose.

If you look back on his time, he was bringing young players in and putting them into a system. Given time I've no doubt he'd have won or competed for a title with that squad.

But they panicked and were seduced by Jose as a cure, and when Van Gaal left Jose inherited a team of players nowhere near suitable for him.

It was a perfect storm and it's great to see the train wreck they are now, but I honestly believe they were mad to sack Van Gaal.

It is harsh because I know his history, lol.

To begin with, I like the sense of respect in your post, the man deserves it all the way, one of the greatest managers in modern football. Personally I will never forget his 3-4-3 revolution at that young Ajax team, humiliating the European “giants” of that time. Even at that period, however, he was betrayed by his own stubbornness, lol (Luis has always been a difficult man): the moment Rajkard retired (THE key player in THE key position, with Limanen’s consistency and professionalism providing the added value), the system became imbalanced (if not dysfunctional). Luis tried everything and everybody (F. De Bour included) to replace him, it did not work out. And when he arrived at Barcelona, the system was abandoned (introducing a 4-3-3 from day one)…

Anyway. I don’t want to go deep into this, a discussion probably deserving a separate topic. As briefly as possible: how do we evaluate a manager’s tenure? Let’s consider for a moment the time and money at his disposal, in relationship with the outcome of his work.

LVG stayed for a period of two seasons at OT, during which he was afforded significant financial resources. He brought in like 11-12 players spending serious money. Open questions:
  • How many of these players addressed real needs? How many dealt effectively with real weaknesses? In defense and in midfield, for example, where United had issues already from the end of the Ferguson era.
  • Furthermore, in how many of these players can we identify signs of progress under Van Gaal’s command? Has anybody actually improved during these 2 seasons?
It cannot be a coincidence that some of these players have already left the club (sold). Would it be fair to say that Herrera is probably the only player somehow having established himself in the squad (of course even he doesn’t have a guaranteed start in Mourinho’s first 11 these days…)? None of these players made a difference. Fact. And there is more. Who is going to take the blame for the Di Maria fiasco? The most expensive British signing at the time? He left in less than 12 months, United did not even get their money back. LVG’s transfer strategy has been a disaster…

Most importantly: What was the scope of Van Gaal’s project? Are we supposed to even use that rather demanding term (“project”)? With a man like Guardiola, the vision and strategy are crystal clear from the first official match (actually even before that, from preseason friendlies), not to mention his immediate impact in terms of individual improvement, even for well established players. LVG worked for 2 seasons at MU. If you ask me what was his intention, what the fuck he was actually trying to build, I’m not sure I can provide an answer. The man changed tactical directions, roles etc so often, it led to confusion (tactical flexibility is a completely different issue). Which is rather a surprise for people familiar with his work. Eventually losing the dressing room which facilitated his exit…

I agree with a lot of the stuff people have mentioned in this forum: it was a difficult period, a problematic environment, the lack of patience, an unhealthy atmosphere etc. But you would expect a man with his talent, personality and experience would be able to handle the situation. Which wasn’t the case, was it? I think he was influenced by the negativity around him, the pressure, the lack of serenity. Unable to make up his mind towards a specific plan, inevitably his tenure is marked by inconsistency. In terms of performances, in terms of results: Delivering a 4th and 5th place, respectively, the win% being the lowest of his career. Can this outcome be considered as acceptable? After all, we are talking about Van Gaal, not Moyes. And by the way, the level of competition was significantly lower in his days, no?

We’ve seen it before, I’m sure we’ll witness it again: It is difficult for some people to realize the time has come. The time to retire. I wish he would have never got involved with that shower of shit. It was a sad ending, he didn’t deserve it…

Just be frustrating for West Ham fans. Whilst the media are clamouring to batter united after that loss, very little credit has gone to the winning side.
I'm sure Pellegrini prefers it that way, quietly and efficiently implementing his ideas on the team while moving away from danger.

And i honestly dont think the media have battered the scum anywhere close to the level that they deserve, certainly not to the degree they would have destroyed us had the opportunity arose.

Their owners are far too distant and self serving, their manager is dinosaur and a cvnt, and their players are overrated, mercenary and lacking a spine and their arrogant fans are the most entitled, clueless and fickle fuckers in the game.

It's reported that United are seeking to appoint a director of football. Can't see them changing manager until that appointment is made at the earliest. He'll then bring in his own man. Unless they make an interim of Carrick, which will be hilarious, so that unlikely. Carry on Jose, job safe for now, beat Valencia and all will be happy
