So the one thing that legitimately concerns me about them is that the ghost of Mourinho still lives on.
We talk about their counter attacking, but there's another thing.
This was their XI against Wolves:
De Gea; Wan-Bisakka, Maguire, Bailly, Telles; Matic, Pogba, Fernandes; Greenwood, Cavani, Rashford MBE
The shortest player on that team is Fernandes, who is 5ft 10 inches (1.79m).
They are a team of relative giants. There were several times during the Wolves game that a Wolves attacker got forward and a large United player just muscled them off the ball. Even Traoré had his issues with this.
When games become a war of attrition over 90 minutes this becomes a huge factor. So when stretches of games or even a whole season of them become like that being larger becomes advantageous. This season especially, when every team (except Villa for some reason) have struggled due to COVID and the tighter schedule and the lack of preseason, United's physical advantage could be telling.
I don't expect them to be a serious challenger, but I do think this season is their best shot under Solskjaer. If Liverpool keep tripping up and we don't take advantage, the door is going to be wide open for them. Because you can be sure Chelsea and Leicester won't be doing anything about it, and Tottenham neither.
