Bizarrely, in McTominays interview after we battered them, he was wittering on about how 'we need to focus now and win the Champions League'....

As abjectly shit as they are, were that somehow to happen, I think it would be the actual end of days.

I wonder if there is some kind of malaise that infects their minds when they join?
Normally professionals at the top level are determined to help the new cause and their super resilient egos that get them there drive them on when there is the slightest ray of hope on the horizon. But over time, toxic culture smothers intent every time.
And after several months of beat downs and humiliations, they fall into a state of learned helplessness, which then becomes wayyy too comfortable a choice unless the club want to get rid - leave for only a chance of winning something, or stay with the safety of a guaranteed bumper payout every week for the rest of their contract and probably beyond.
After all, each one only has to look a bit better than their equally rubbish colleagues in order to maintain the illusion of star quality.

I think it actually is the end of days but a global pandemic and world war three were both more likely than them winning the champions league this year.
