This is exactly what he wanted.
If he’d played nicely United would never have released him from his contract. So he did his interview, fired a few rockets, and now walks away with his contract shredded, and probably straight into a fat new contract elsewhere.
So he’s got his own way, which is a shame because I was enjoying watching the trouble he caused at United.
Personally I think he stayed at United til now, to stay fit and mildly relevant so he could play in the WC. He’s thrown his toys outta the pram now so he can go elsewhere for one last big pay cheque when the WC is over. Saudi or wherever.
I did think it was odd he apparently has no plans to play in the next WC, for someone who seemed to want to play forever. Then I remembered parts of it will be played in the USA……… say no more.
