The Ronaldo situation has been handled appallingly, defending a player who leaves at half time from a preseason friendly is an incredible mistake from any manager.
To be fair, I think he did try. Not immediately - but a few days after there was criticism of players leaving that pre-season game early, although he didn't single out Ronaldo personally.
But the next day he will have been summoned to appear before the 'thinktank' and told to wind it in and remember who is in charge of the bloody club. And he did.
Imagine if Arsene Wenger was still behind the scenes at Arsenal - had rang Adebeyor up to come back and play aged 38....* and always play if fit. Would Arteta stand for that? Of course he bloody wouldn't, what a joke United have become.
