Gambling their future, that's only heading one way and it isn't good for them.

Football authorities should already have a block in place for stuff like this, it shouldn't be allowed.

If it's for work on Old Trafford it's reasonable to borrow the money - It's not as dodgy as the leveraged buyout that put United in debt in the first place. Spurs are one of (or even the most) indebted club in football, but their borrowing was for the stadium, which makes a lot more money now, and the debt is very long term at very low rates.

United already owe something like £600m, so it's possible they may struggle to get the same kind of rates as Spurs, and selling future rights might be better value.

Barca made all this sound dodgier, because they presented it as if their 'levers' weren't mostly borrowing money. They then used much of it to pay fees/salaries, which is really iffy.
