There's all sorts of ways of calculating returns. The market value is not of interest to owners once shares are issued so calculations based on market value of equity are only really for investors looking at their current holdings.

The shares as valued on the balance sheet is fixed and more relevant to the full picture.
Respectfully I disagree - the article was about the “value” of the club. Call me old fashioned but it’s the value of the debt and equity. To value the equity you need to mark to market (for that class of shares) and if they are junior then their value would reflect any prefs or other senior equity that isn’t traded as well as the debt.

How can they be 2nd? is the debt not taken into account
Look to astrophysics. Super black holes may actually create dark energy that keeps the universe expanding . Nothing at the centre , swallowing everything adjacent but dark energy is generated in this terrible vacuum.

So ....You don't have to have substance these days to make money . Just the sort of product marketing is interested in that creates eyes on the page . A sort of negative energy that has motive force . There is as much value currently in United's Fall as there is in their success . It's the story that keeps on giving . If you're a sponsor your brand is still being seen every time someone clicks on the latest catastrophic story . Doesn't make any sense but ....

BTW I'm probably talking nonsense, but it's been fun meandering into astrophysics over my coffee . And Scruffy Jim is no Einstein either

Similar hairstyle though.....

I can't see the PL allowing it.

The dippers were going bankrupt and they bent over backwards not to deduct points and extend deadlines to allow the FSG crooks to take it over.

I can see Masters allowing them the same treatment.
Just imagine United bottom … ready to be relegated and the cartel opt for a rule change no relegation and no promotion… hmmmm?
They did it with Covid and stadium plans didn’t they!

Interesting isn't it.
Rags statium is falling down
Statium food rating 2 star because of mice everywhere.
Making redundancies left right and center.
Over paying on average players.
Paying huge interest rates on their 1.1 billion debt.
Over seas fan base getting smaller.

Some how rated as the second most valuable club lol

They're still a very big entity though. Their global fan base amongst younger generations is probably declining but there's still a huge amount of global fans from the days of Sir Alex. We probably won't see the knock on effect of them being shite for another decade or so in terms of their fan base decreasing.

That club is still extremely valuable despite their struggles, for now at least.

Sir Alex?

Fucking hell!

I was out yesterday in the former Rag stronghold of Lytham. I saw seven City shirts, two Liverpool, and not a single Rag. I also bumped into two city fans I know not wearing colours. Their support has been devastated round here.

So basically they only assets are fans. So the value is a fan base .......And as for Sir Alex ......fucking do one !

I don't see how City would be valued less than the rags.

City Modern statium being enlarge to also have a hotel. State of the art campus. Won everything over the last decade.

Rags well we know have a mice infected run down waterfall of a statium.

;)

All the Fleetwood-by-the-Sea rag shirts disappeared last Thursday, the previous week or so they were gradually growing in numbers but on the Thursday morning nothing.

I was up in Blackpool last week for an afternoon drink and it was City/Rangers/Celtic/dips with just a couple of young kids in raggy stuff whose fathers I made comments to about child cruelty whilst in my City shirt, Mrs Moon keeps saying I'll get filled in one day.

They are in severe decline in Lancashire. The pubs are deserted when they are on the TV. City and LFC are dominant but there has also been a resurgence in support for local clubs like PNE, Blackpool FC, Bolton, plus non league clubs. United are being wiped out round here, especially amongst younger fans.

United's market capitalisation is easily worked out as the shares are publicly quoted. That changes minute-by-minute. The share price went up when they sacked Ten Hag and appointed Amorim , dropped as part of the market turmoil following Trump's measures, went back up and then dropped when they failed to win the EL.

I've ni idea how Forbes came by the figure they did though and I can't see any calculation. Seems miles too high based on the share price at the end of the 2024 FY. But that's the Class A shares whereas the Glazers hold the Class B shares, so I guess they've valued those in some way and added them in.

It's possible they used the price Scruffy Jim paid for his Class B shares, which would probably explain it. But he massively overpaid in my view.

It's a bit like politics: no such thing as a safe seat nowadays because the political climate changes almost on a daily basis, one place might be Labour red today but could be the yellow of the LibDems tomorrow.

I live in a small seaside town and we have thousands upon thousands of holiday makers passing through each year. Ten years ago we'd have been awash with rag shirts, kids and adults. Not now. It's a mixture of us and the dippers, with the odd Gooner thrown in for bad measure.
Glory hunters they might be, but if the trend continues the verminous rodents from Trafford will soon be but a distant memory - at least on my doorstep, anyway.

At Cartmel Races last Wed, only saw 4 footie shirts; all City shirts! No rags or dipper shirts to be seen!

I really think the Rags are reaching a tipping point. Another decade of LFC or City success will be devastating for them in the North West and globally. Happy days.

I live in Korea and travel to nearby countries a fair bit. Rag shirts are still by far the most common English club shirts. Obviously the odd Spurs shirt in Korea because of Son but id say about 90% of English club shirts in this part of the world are Man U
