Unpopular opinions

Read the thread title,it’s up to them,in the private sector if you don’t like your job you fucking change it. Why do you think there are 50000 vacancies , it’s poorly paid and a shit job. You’ve chosen your career and would obviously not work in their conditions
You must have read the thread title as ‘unpopular opinions that can’t be challenged’.

As to the part about changing your job: I did. And to great effect, but it doesn’t mean that everyone is as well placed to do so. My age, personal and wider circumstance, my extraordinary self belief, some good fortune along with my intelligence and personality all conspired to make it possible. However, no two scenarios (or individuals) are the same and to criticise someone who chooses to enter a profession that involves the care of others at its very heart and to suggest the solution is simply to change jobs marks you down as a bit of a sociopath.

You could just as readily say the same about people who start up a business in a high risk part of the economy. ‘If you don’t like your choice of business then fucking change it’. Or at least you would if you were a sociopath.

Not to mention your extreme modesty which is evident as you forgot to mention it.if I had a personality disorder the last place I would want it treated would be the nhs
Nursing has never been a decent ly paid job and the only point I was making was that they know this when they enter it and to expect a19% pay rise with the current situation and this Tory government in charge is in my opinion unattainable

And there’s nothing wrong with that neither. It’s just a natural part of maturing and earning more money as some people go through life and the struggles you may have faced at 18 when you first go to uni start to become a distant memory.

And being more right-wing doesn’t mean that you’re a Tory. You can hold right-wing views and disagree with everything the current Tories do and say.

And being more right-wing doesn’t mean that you’re a racist. Even being anti-immigration doesn’t mean you’re a racist.

And being more right-wing doesn’t mean that you’re a ‘gammon’ (what a stupid word uttered by sad bastards that it!).

And being more right-wing doesn’t mean that you’re FAR right-wing (because too many on the left conflate those two things, much like the right conflate being left wing with being liberal).

It also doesn’t change anything about you as an individual if you’ve moved along the political spectrum to the right a bit.

I’d probably describe myself as just to the left of centre with some right-wing views these days. Whereas when I was 18 I was probably just to the right of being a socialist. I’d maybe even describe myself as apolitical or someone who lies somewhere along every point of the political spectrum depending on the point being talked about.
Steady on, that is far too sensible.

I'm the opposite, mid 30s now and have gone from being full blown left wing to, let's say still left economically but closer to centre and fairly conservative socially.
I am centrist on economics, slightly left of centre on fiscal matters, but way out radical on social issues. Yet, I am certainly not a socialist. Mixed up kid is closer.

If I was modest then I wouldn’t be doing what I do now to such great effect. So, no, I’m certainly not a modest person. I am aware of and readily acknowledge my shortcomings as a person, but I know my strengths, am happy to talk about them, and I have the stripes to prove their credentials. As I said, I have incredible self belief, which has proven to be very well founded.

As to nurses knowing what the pay is when they enter the profession, firstly it wasn’t the only point you were making, as you chose to compare it unfavourably with someone who owned a pub or restaurant. The same could be said about them. They know they are entering a business that involves people’s discretionary income, that struggles especially during economic downturns, and can be subject to the vagaries of fiscal policy more than most enterprises. It doesn’t mean they aren’t deserving of sympathy or that the answer is as simple as going elsewhere and doing something else given (inter alia) they have financial and contractual commitments that prevent them so doing, or to put it another way, it is unattainable.

Muppets Christmas Carol is the worst adaptation of my favourite story.
It's also my favourite book.

The Muppets one better than a few others and a good way for younger kids to get into the story. I always find something a bit off-putting about the Disney one with Carrey (probably find him just a bit too over the top).

The Alastair Sim one is always popular and good fun but strays a bit too far from the story to be the best version. The Patrick Stewart and George C Scott ones are probably nearest to the book IMO. The Stewart one being my particular favourite.
