Upson

then why buy them ? kompany settled fine, zab settled fine, de jong settled fine, petrov settled fine, corluka settled fine, anelka settled fine, van buyten settled fine.

quality players usually settle ok. i think its because we have so much money we aren't bothering to look for gems. we going for quick fixes that we can just chuck a few extra million at

For everyone thats been brilliant there are 10 that are completely shit thats the problem. Too much fucking around with Terry and Eto this summer has left us with no time to get the defence sorted.

Upson would be an excellent signing for us wait and see.

I would say it's called playing the percentages it's more likly that a player playing in the same league will settle in more quickly

i agree but with the money we have at our disposal we can pay for a higher quality of player which is less of a gamble than an unknown samaras type player

Still a Gamble, Sheva, Crespo, Veron, Mutu etc etc etc......

Its also another tactical signing in that it weakens a side that finished above us last season. And yes it does matter....

I am much happier with Upson for £10 million ish than Lescott for £25 million on the basis they are very similar ability wise but giving Everton that amount of money to spend could potentially cause us problems if Moyes got all of it to Strengthen.

For any other club it would not be good business as at 30 he has no resale value but we are clearly not bothered about that or we wouldnt have signed half the players we have.

Very underwhelmed.

Another player that isn't top quality, is way too expensive, old and injury prone. And will need to be replaced in a year for us to continue to move forward.

disagree on all fronts.....is this post a joke................?

No, it's not.

I Posted days ago and others have mentioned since i think some of you are missing the point with the pursuit of Lescott.
We have decent (not great) cover at centre back and non at left back.
I think Hughes is acutely aware of this and is caught in a quandry.
Does he

a) buy a left footed versatile defender to cover slightly concerning stat of Bridge only playing 80 odd games in 5 seasons
b) buy another left back

If he opts for b) this could be another Cashly dilema for Bridgey.

Either way LB is the immediate problem not CB

Let's sign Emile Heskey and Gary Neville.

Did you want to sign Terry ? Hes 29 and his back is completely fucked. He will have much worse injury problems moving forward than Upson so thats a shit argument mate.

Our issue is in central defence at the moment as we only have Dunn and Ben Haim fully fit currently, neither are good enough for a top 6 side. Bridge was a bit rusty last season having not much footbal buts looked excellent preseason. Hes still the second best english left back in the league.

By signing a left footed centre back like Upson or Lescott the argument is they can cover there anyway if needed and we have Kompany and Nedum to cover central defence at a good level - when they are fully fit again.

A defensive outfield squad of Zabs, Richards, Toure, Upson, Kompany, Nedum, Bridge is a pretty solid line up tbh At least as good as Arsenal have available and much better than Villa, Everton or Spurs currently have.

I would argue that Liverpool only have one decent central defender in Carragher and their other options are not looking so good with Skirtel missing for a couple of months and arbeloa sold.
