I am much happier with Upson for £10 million ish than Lescott for £25 million on the basis they are very similar ability wise but giving Everton that amount of money to spend could potentially cause us problems if Moyes got all of it to Strengthen.
For any other club it would not be good business as at 30 he has no resale value but we are clearly not bothered about that or we wouldnt have signed half the players we have.
not sure we weakened west ham last season when we took bellamy, they finished above us i think. lescott is of much higher quality than upson imo so i would prefer to pay 10m extra or pay 10m less and go abroad

Not if they use the money to buy a younger, better defender with more potential than Upson.

Yeah, I did. He is an elite defender, and the statement that his signing would have made would have been enormous.
For the very best you might make a few allowances, maybe in transfer fee, or wages, or injury history (Terry pisses on Upson as far as that goes). But for mediocre players, it's just not worth it.

Well you said it, lets sign Heskey and Neville. Alan Smith is an international, Joey Barton as well. Stewart Downing, Nicky Butt, Danny Mills, Darius Vassell, Michael Ricketts and Jermaine Jenas.
