As a New Yorker who was directly affected by the September 11th attacks, the fact that Saudi Arabia is hosting the Club World Cup puts a stain on the entire event for me.
Gotcha Man -I know exactly what you mean (that what must not be said etc)

I work in KSA at the minute, just landed back here now from Istanbul. Once they confirm whether it’s in Riyadh or Jeddah I will pull together something that might be helpful for anyone planning to travel.
I’m in Dammam mate, drop me a line when it becomes more clearer

And all of your examples are of those countries being the warring or invading country.

Saudi Arabia wasn't responsible for 11/9.
Saudi settled a £400m lawsuit from the 9/11 families without prejudice.

Whilst they were not responsible, 19 of the 21 hijackers were from Saudi and if you think their security services were at least not aware of a plot, I would suggest naivety.

They knew, they just turned a blind eye.

If the Saudi government had directly planned and paid for it, even the desert would not exist.

Yeah, pisses me off every time Germany hosts a tournament. Oh England was at war with France at the battle of Waterloo too so the French hosting a tournament offends me.
Then there was the Spanish Armarda coming over to have a go at Sir Francis Drake, interrupting his game of bowls on Plymouth Hoe, so a Spanish tournament offends me.
Then there's the fucking Roman's and the Vikings.....
Exactly! And, what have the Vikings ever done for us?

[Given us the fuckin' Nordic meat shield :-)]

I live in Jumeirah on the border of Dubai/Abu Dhabi.

Flights from DXB & Midfield are plentiful and chep.

Like it or not KSA is a coming force, as the UAE were 40 years ago.

They are ‘westernising’ and the development of NEOM on the Red Sea Coast is truly phenomenal.

Turkey has some questionable policies but it didn’t stop us having a fantastic time. The UK is utterly broken, but it doesn’t stop people from accepting it and millions more wanting to come.

In 20 years millions will be holidaying there enjoying a pint and a flutter.

The only thing that is constant is change !!

I'm not one to suck up to the hurt feelings of Americans, but these are completely different things. To pick the most recent example, the entire German leadership either killed themselves or were put on trial and the country was occupied for years afterwards. Saudi Arabia has never experienced a fraction of that accountability. (But I have different reasons for not being interested in this joke tournament.)

But how many innocent people have died as a result of the US' foreign policies?

I never like mixing sport with politics, it's only ever a negative thing to do and since the formation of almost every sport worldwide, politics, power and corruption have been there. Best to focus on the football itself or we should all go and work for the Guardian.

I'd rather it wasn't in Saudi, but I want us to win it.
