US & Israel attack Iran

Would be the sensible thing to do. Dont think todays announcement will help much.

The Iranian FM said he regards the UK as helping the US prior to this, so it doesn’t actually change much.

If we denied the US the use of our bases entirely it still isn’t going to open the Strait and like it or not we and most other counties want/need the strait open.

It’s a total fucking mess and most of the options are pretty shit.

Morally, and it terms of national self-respect it changes a great deal.

Well, that would be great, but that isn’t getting the Strait open, ships sailing, oil flowing or helping the 20,000 poor sods stuck on ships and running out of supplies because no port wants to accept them for fear of attack.

I don’t agree with helping the Americans - staying out of this shitshow is the only sensible option, but we, like everyone else, do need the Strait open, and if I’m being honest I have no idea how we do that. I don’t know what we and the other five nations have agreed on about the issue either. All I do know is that the whole situation stinks and Trump is a **** for starting this shit.

I wasn't implying it does. But the US has existed for 250 years and has been at war for all but 30 years. Let that sink in. And somehow they have convinced a lot of gullible fools that they are a force for good.
I’m more than sure that not many see them as a force for good, more a force of economy.

Quite amusing that he's only just admitted that the US can fly out of bases in the UK for strikes....

When there's been freely available videos on YouTube of B52s and B1 heavy bombers flying out of Fairford for about 2 weeks now.

One B52 I saw was so 'loaded' with weaponry that the massive bomb bay wasn't enough and it had a number of cruise missiles strapped to it's wings as well!

Edit: I wouldn't surprised if the source image was a screen cap from the video I saw.

RAF Fairford is a British base legally but the Americans have used the base since 1950 we probably couldn’t stop them from using it this time.

It’s the only long range American base in Europe so technically it’s not a British base. We need to make it clear to Iran that we are not flying long range bombers

At this point, the decision is right, and doesn’t affect us militarily. We have to protect our people from increasingly rising bills.

Legally, this is still defensive actions and, regardless of what we say, the US would do it anyway.

As can be seen, I’m at that point where soft power should turn to hard power to protect ourselves from a horrible regime who don’t give a fuck about their own people, never mind others.

Shell garage down the road from me selling diesel at £1.83 per litre - thats over £8.50 a gallon. I say selling they probably aren't as a garage the other side of town are still at £1.69 per litre. Buckle up folks its gonna be a long year
Now over €2 ltr diesel in Spain

Are you talking about America there?

Lets kill people to shave a bit off the bills. Fuck that.

I know thats not what you mean, and apologse for quoting you when I say this.

But what a fucking mess Trump and Netanyahu have got us into. Cunts.

Yeah I know. That's why I worded it "out of bases in the UK" rather than out of British bases.

And yeah our hands are kinda tied. If we didn't want the Americans to use Fairford then we'd have been slowly pushing them out. But we're not because it's our benefit to be on good terms with them.

One example of that is that we don't have enough F35s to have a full compliment on our aircraft carriers. So the US provides aircraft to make up the shortfall.

It's a complicated subject but I think if you put yourself in Iran's shoes getting battered daily by Israeli and American airstrikes some of which are flying from the UK. Then to me we are clearly part of thei enemy.

We're not their first (oil infrastructure) , second (Israel), third (local US airbases) or fourth (US Navy assets) targets but I think we're on their 'hit list'. The Faslane attempted break in was their way of telling us that.

The **** needs teaching a lesson, even if it hurts us in the process. He needs constraining. He is a far bigger threat to global stability than the price of oil.

Just started Michael Axworthy’s Revolutionary Iran: A History of the Islamic Republic.

Although Axworthy passed in 2019 and the book was published in 2013, the six page preface, which is entitled ‘Introduction: The Hidden Continent of Iran’ is an exceptional piece of writing, one that I can guarantee will upend the preconceptions that many may have about the country.

It can be read as a stand alone essay and is still highly relevant. And by sampling the Kindle edition on Amazon, anyone can do that for free.

It’s well worth the bother.
