I don't know why people care so much about pro LGBQT+ content being 'in your face'.

It isn’t affecting me in any way, shape or form. If some fella wants to paint rainbows on his face and strut round the local supermarket dressed in a tutu, waving pompoms and singing Y M.C.A, then whatever. As long as he's not getting in my way I don't have to pay any attention, although in all fairness it'd probably lighten up an otherwise boring shopping trip.

It's just something for people hang their prejudices on like a lot of other issues that are politicised. The perfect non-issue for the Right-Wing Christian fundamentalists to get a hard-on over. For the vast majority of sane people it's just not worth even thinking about.
"What's with all these black sitcoms like Sanford & Son, The Jeffersons and Good Times? They don't have to be so in-your-face about it."

Is it any greater than the high level of pro-LGBTQ+ content that has been thrust on an unsuspecting population?

This used to be an issue that most people generally accepted as long as it wasn’t “in your face,” because I think most people don’t care what people do in their private lives as long as no-one is getting hurt.

However, I know many, many people who are definitely on the liberal side of the seesaw who are aghast at the level of “in your face” LGBTQ+ media today.

Like most people I personally know, I believe people have the right to love whomever they please. However, like them, I also believe it’s private choice and I don’t need my nose rubbed in it or reminded of it at every turn.

Of course, in a country that pretends to be more religious than it is by deed, the current explosion in media of the LGBTQ+ community gives the right wing yet another bludgeon in their culture war. Heck, De Santis is running for President on it!

From my perspective, as a liberal in a fairly conservative community and workplace, the current levels of anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment feel like a reflexive response to the unprecedented increase in LGBTQ+ content right in front of our collective faces.

In addition, demographics and who owns the media may play a large factor on levels of exposure.

The only time it's 'thrown in my face' is when right wing accounts obsessed about LGBTQ start tweeting (I don't follow the accounts) how offended they are by a rainbow zebra crossing or a crisp packet or toilets and so on, they seem so angry about it that it's hilarious. Of course though, they are pretending to be outraged to gain clicks and shares as they know homophobes and thick people will lap it up.

Just out of curiosity, what would you consider an example of "in your face" LGBTQ+ media? When you say you don't want your nose rubbed in it, what do you mean? There's a spectrum. Is a couple of guys holding hands in public a problem? Or are you tied down to a chair by the State of IL and made to watch trans porn?

This post sounds like you're blaming a proactive LGBTQ+ community looking to expand/protect its rights and favo(u)rable media sentiment toward those aims for the frankly insane GOP platform backlash to the attempts. Not sure that's really the look you want.

That’s easy!

Having an LGBTQ+ family member in my own family, the discussion has revolved around the fact that the search for equality has been hijacked by the most extreme activists in the media…or perhaps they’re just the ones being sought out by the clickbait crowd?

I think the fact that society is full of LGBTQ+ individuals who seek no limelight, only the desire to be treated equally, has been overlooked by the media, BECAUSE of the “in your face” levels of activism. This has obviously come to a head more recently with the high profile conflicts with the Trans community that have been highlighted by some in the media.

Nor the look I accept.

I have no problem with the LGBTQ+ community or their search the equality they deserve. Sadly, though, I believe some of the activism has been not only more polarizing than intended, but counterproductive to the desire for gains by many within the community.

The far right will always be the far right, but we must always be mindful that none of us controls all the media with which we come into contact, and that media can quickly become weaponized, and has….even right here!!!

I see you’re on a roll.

Any other brushes with which you’d like to extrapolate your tarring and feathering?

While your belief can’t be considered “controversial,” the AGREEMENT on change is always the issue, especially given the level of agreement required.

With the current levels of division, it’s almost impossible to believe any Constitutional Amendments could get through the process in the foreseeable future.
Which supports the argument I was advancing.

I don’t disagree that change may be needed and that discord between the politicians makes that incredibly difficult today, but that was by design. I just think, like you it appears, that the design was built without the ability to see 200 years over the horizon and conservatives appear quite happy to conserve 1780s America!
