There’s a superiority I find unsettling with the whole thing. People saying we’ve read about fascism so we know better. They are living it and denying that it’s happening using that argument.

I think there's a swathe of people, not just on this issue, who think that being agnostic or "seeing both sides" of a debate makes them sound intelligent and reasoned. And it might even work when one of the sides isn't actual fascism.
