I had shingles about 50 years ago. Will I be immune?

Doubt it. I know at least 2 people who have had it several times in the last few years.

Sometimes (often) having chicken pox/shingles/varicella is enough to be immune…even if a long time ago. In my line of work we are able to accept verbal confirmation of having any of those as being immune.
I’m assuming we are roughly of the same age…at least 30/35+? We “relied” on catching chicken pox as kids to boost immunity, and then pass that on to our kids…so varicella vaccines aren’t very common.

Although like anything health related, just check with your GP and ask if considered to be at risk

I had chicken pox as a kid then got shingles at age 58. I might be wrong but I think I remember reading that the virus just goes dormant and then can "reactivate" years later.

Sad to see trad Rupublicans impaling themselves on the alter of the mighty Donald and MAGA.
And what are the Democrats doing about it - fuck all frankly.

Trump’s trade war on Canada can only end badly for him.

Canadian citizens will rally behind their government and ‘buy Canadian’ going forward.

American citizens will quickly realise they are exporting far less (when they lose their jobs). They’ll also notice everything becoming more expensive. Stock market is already down.

All completely avoidable and it’s their elected leader doing it to them. Trump really isn’t bright at all. He’s a bully who thinks acting tough equates to being a good politician.

What do you want them to do? Trying to convince people of this guy’s lunacy despite the mountains of evidence didn’t work.

So now? Duck and cover. And hope by the midterms the people realiz(s)e their mistake — not that you want them to suffer, but that appears to be the only thing that could possibly get folks to change their minds.

And then simply say, “Donald Trump and the GOP did this to you all by themselves. You are poorer, less safe, less happy and suffering. We can make those problems go away. We’ll just reverse his policies.”

They won’t even need any new ideas this time. Yes, it will help if they can find someone to lead the charge for 2028. I don’t think they need it for 2026. Reverse the House and Senate. Then spread the same message two years later.

To your point — it’s going to be very hard for any GOPer to escape the blowback, ala Ford after Nixon IMO.

Now then — can Trump end the pain he caused by reversing his own policies but claiming he got a “win” like the first time with tariffs? I don’t think so, because it’s the very yo-yoing uncertainty about the future that’s likely to hurt both consumer and business spending — not the mathematics, but the psychology. People don’t like volatility.

I don't think they can do much. Maybe sort out a proper candidate for the future and go on rallies?

The society (and people) that rely on those taxes???

Or, let’s carry your thought experiment to its conclusion…

Let’s get rid of all taxes.
How dod you get the above from my claim. I saod who can be against more efficient use of collected taxes.

How did you derive get rid pf all taxes from that?

Result?

How high is unemployment?

Who defends the country?

Who ensures food is safe?

Who ensures water is safe?

Who fixes the water main burst in front of your house? Hell, who delivers the water to your house and carries the shit away from your house?

And, who does what with the tens of millions of people who are now old and destitute, with no ability to feed, clothe or maintain their health?

Taxes are a really bad thing until you remove them and realize what you lost!

NOW…creating a fairer society and using taxes wisely? ALL FOR IT!!

Giving corporations and billionaires another tax break and increasing the national debt by $5-14 TRILLION? Hmmm, doesn’t seem like that’s a good thing, but that’s just me.

One day, if the rest of the world decides it doesn’t want to buy US Treasuries in just ONE Treasury auction, the world as we know it changes in ways you can only imagine.

The entire American house of cards is built on OUTSIDERS relying on the safety of the dollar. Remove that and it ALL comes crashing down!
ALL OF IT!!

Because the whole “more efficient use of collected taxes” is a bullshit smokescreen used by the Right in an effort to cut Corporate & Millionaire taxes AT THE EXPENSE OF HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS IN SOCIETY.

There is, was, and always will be fraud, waste and abuse, but I’m struggling to see how taking a golden chainsaw to ENTIRE GOVT DEPARTMENTS is an exercise in “efficiency.”

So, let’s take this whole charade to the end game they’re looking for!

Someone told Trump that before the U.S. had income taxes, they used tariffs to pay for things. Hmmmm…and what’s the current mantra?!
