Tbf, I’ve done my share of going to pubs at 9am for a full English/Irish in my time, including the 30 minute drive to get there. Those days are over in my 60s!That's why we have sports pubs here Chicago, the games are in the afternoons here and the pub keeper has to pay for it to keep his business solvent.
Now, I roll out of bed into the TV room for the afternoon kickoffs (0900/1000 here) and have to set an alarm for City’s lunchtime games, which start before the Sun comes up!!
I remember one memorable layover in Portland, Oregon, where I found a pub that was going to be open for a City vs Liverpool game. Set my alarm, because even a 3pm kickoff is early early on the West Coast only to wake up to it raining cats and dogs!
In for a penny, so I donned my gear, trudged a mile or so thru the deluge, only to find myself the only Blue in a sea of Red Dipper fans!!
Sat down, ordered, and was pleasantly surprised I didn’t get my head kicked in while celebrating going up 2-0 before HT.
A couple of the lads were complimentary about City, but this was back in the Typical City days, so I explained how it wasn’t over yet!! Sure enough, City lost 3-2!!
For those of you who can recite names, dates and scores, I’m sure you know when that actually was, but I couldn’t remember to save my life!! Maybe late 90’s, early 00’s?!
Thank goodness Comcast/NBC/Peacock has every PL game on now and it’s in the next room or on my iPad while overseas!!
