US Presidential Election, Nov 5th 2024

The polls were completely wrong again. It’s looking like and absolute landslide for trump

I know I’m coming across like a know-it-all smart arse today, I don’t mean to, but I also said this would happen ages ago.

The Bradley Effect is still a problem in political polling. Same in the UK, the hidden right wing vote is always under counted.

I said she’d need to be a good 6+ points clear in the polls to account for this and for it to be anywhere near close.

You are paying above the standard wage and have vacancies. Then controlled immigration would work for your company.
Sometimes it just location or seasonal problems. Not enough local workers to fill the jobs.
You apply to have foreign workers to fill those gaps. It's win win then.

I'm just not having British youth are "all" lazy fuckers. It a common misconception spread by people with "interests".
Having said that the Tik Tok generation has a lot to answer for!

Laziness isn't the issue (it might be part of it), it's expectations. A lot of British people view certain jobs as beneath them, whereas migrants see a wage and a future.

He only has 4 years, so I think that once he has cleared the legal cases against him and chosen his people, he’ll be out on the golf course and they’ll be the ones implementing their policies and putting things in place that will have the Democratic Party ruing this election defeat for some time.

He's got control of both houses and the Supreme Court - total control - an elected dictatorship

Looking at the popular vote I'm doubting if any Democrat could have beaten him now.
It's the Youth and Hispanic vote surge for Trump - They outweighed the Female surge for Harris in the vote by around 2.5%

My view is what it has always been. The culture war stuff is a red herring and people vote with their wallets.

If you feel poorer than you did four years ago, you vote out the current government. Whether it's their fault or not it doesn't really matter, it's just how it works.

The post-covid inflation bubble has killed the Democrats' campaign, not all the 'woke vs anti woke' stuff. That's all just noise IMO. Same in this country. Look at when there are big changes in government, it's always the economy, stupid.

And that's an area where Harris and Biden consistently polled far behind Trump. Game over. I said it years ago.

There's quite a lot of research now that it's not your absolute financial position that feeds dissatisfaction but your perception on how fairly you feel you've been treated relative to others and crucially the degree to which you believe you have the opportunity to improve your lot. Demagogues understand this and adapt their narrative and lies to feed off these feelings. Imo the only way liberal western democracies can properly address this is by actively and genuinely focusing on and reducing the trend of allowing inequalities to increase. Unless and until there is the appetite to do this we'll continue down the slippy slope.

Really. He's shit all over pensioners, farmers and private enterprise. He works for his clientele . I'm not sure we'll survive the next 5 years. His government is already resembling the shambles that was the Wilson Callaghan government in the 70s.
Regardless of what your opionions are of his motives, the PM works for the British people and not the US President, which was what my original post was pointing out to the tongue in cheek remark of Jim.
