US Presidential Election, Nov 5th 2024

Yeah, that's the thing. Scotus didn't give the President any far ranging powers.

That said, it's funny that the very people who were whaling about the excessive power of the Presidency are now clamouring for Biden to use those exact powers.

Interesting!
its the fact they cant even see the irony of it
Do as we say not as we do

CNN
Harris Campaign: Biden will hold a lot of blame for this loss...
I think thats fair. She's culpable too obviously, lets be fair, but Biden should have stuck to his word and not ran again. The result might not have been different but at least there would have been a process to elect a candidate and not only have kamala because she can use the campaign funds. He shafted the Democrats and she finished the job.

Disagree with #1.. all you have to look at is the numbers..

Trump got less votes than 2020 (some of his base aged out but he found young men to carry his torch)

What really killed the dems is losing 15 million people that voted for Biden and had very high hopes for him. I mean 81 million vs 66 million.. that's the election right there.

Why did they not vote for her?
Her, that’s why, if it was a bloke then they might have had a better night, and I mean a bloke who knows where the fuck he is.

Is there provision within the constitution for states to secede from the union?
Can see places like California (plus the west coast states) and New York (plus the rest of New England) thinking fuck this after a year or two because it’s the large Dem states that will be paying for Trump’s shit show, and they might decide they’re better alone.
Not before Surrey has seceded from Starmer’s Britain.

Economy for sure. Biden choosing to run, causing Democrats not run a real primary didn't help. Immigration was a disaster.

Not much they could do about the primary.
But above all Kamala Harris was simply a terrible candidate to run against a headwind. She is as bad of a public speaker as I've ever seen on the national stage

Agree to disagree. She was fine, and judged by a different standard to her opponent.

They both called each other names. That was a wash. She simply couldn't connect with people who weren't already anti-Trump.
Not even close to being a wash. Trump called her stupid daily, there wasn't a rally where he didn't call her incompetent or corrupt or evil. He questioned her race, he laughed at jokes about her working on a street corner. He said that he would like to see her in a ring with Mike Tyson.

She was asked if she agreed with a characterisation of Trump by his former chief of staff. She said yes.

A wash. With all due respect you can fuck off with that.

I think it’s a few things -
1) The country is further right than many of us would like it to be and those people are voting on emotion not specific policy
2) The radicalization of young white men
3) Social media’s (and media in general) sowing of discontent and misery and Dem’s inability to understand or control it

And most importantly -
4) an electorate that is unhappy with the incumbent
Good post. I think point #3 is very salient. Musks twitter was a cesspool of disinformation

I swear they lose these elections on purpose. A golden retriever would beat Trump. Heck a fucking senile old man beat him easily. They managed to select 2 massively dislikable strict headteacher type women as the candidate. Twice! They deserve everything they get since they fucked over Bernie Sanders in the 2016 primaries.
Bernie Sanders was equally unelectable.
Actually more so.
