US Presidential Election, Nov 5th 2024

Hope Trump wipes the floor with them, i say them as its clear that shithouse Obama is still running the show, everybody is entitled to their opinion and I really want Trump to win , I refuse to be influenced by the media and do my own research and have visited the States regularly and have done under Reagan, Bush, Clinton, GW Bush, Obama, Trump & Biden and having spoken to a lot of Americans they say things have never been as bad as it currently is and all the negativity and hatred being currently spoken is coming from the Democrats

Lol absolute waffle

There is a balancing act as to how much you allow opinions that aren’t based on any actual factual evidence to grow and be amplified though, particularly nowadays in a post truth world.

How to deal with that, I don’t think anyone’s worked out yet. The internet and social media spawned far sooner than society was mature enough to use it.
Absolutely I'm by no means saying everyone should be able to get on and agree, the people who spout unresearched shite on social media shouldn't be given the time of day. Social media is a cesspit for political nonsense but I don't think the answer to this issue is hurling abuse back at them, by doing that people are just becoming part of the problem.

Bet you were in bottom set for every subject at school.

Thing is though I’ve not seen any other way of dealing with it work either. Reasoning doesn’t work, Goves comment of “we’ve had enough of experts” is more prevalent now than ever. What were previously trusted institutions are constantly targeted.

Over time it gets to a point where the more rational people will end up just get angry - those opinions they’re battling eventually lead to real world consequences.

Like I said, I don’t know the answer to it.

Precisely right. And then the experts are accused of being elites. I have experience in my work area of expertise over five decades, but social media allows some know-nothing nub to spout some view on an instant, free, worldwide platform as if he/she ever earned such a pulpit, and muck up a well-researched narrative, with effectively no negative consequences, and send those who want understanding down ridiculous rabbit holes, which experts like me then need to patiently counter.

It’s like washing your car and then having pigeons shit on it every hour. After a while, as much as one might be an animal lover, you just decide to shoot the fucking pigeons.

Speaking as someone who has always been good at viewing the qualities of those I disagree with politically (Thatcher, Benn, Reagan and even Farage) the issue with Trump is that he has no identifiable redeeming characteristics whatsoever, which informs my incredulity as to how anyone could view him positively.

For me, it’s not about his politics, but rather his manifest unsuitability to hold public office in numerous ways.

I am genuinely baffled, give all he says and does, how any reasoned, rational person cannot see this.

There are spice heads in Piccadilly Gardens who are more suited to running a country than Donald Trump.

On that basis it is impossibly difficult for me to understand their state of mind or reasoning, as much as I genuinely try to.

It’s akin to having a conversation with someone who says they don’t rate KDB. It simply doesn’t compute and, frankly, isn’t worth the time and emotional energy.
200 million Christians, many of whom think he’s their saviour.
He fiddled the Supreme Court so Roe vs Wade could be challenged and, for many of them, that’s more than enough.
He also appeals to disenfranchised young men, often poorly educated, who long for someone to ‘make it better’, whatever that might mean. They know they’re not getting on and, it is easier to manage if it is someone else’s fault.

The playbook, admittedly not quite so extreme, has been perfected in the UK over the last decade. Find something or someone to scapegoat and use that as the driving force to get people out to vote who, historically at least, tend not to bother. That particularly resonates when people feel like they’ve ’got nothing’ and therefore have got nothing to lose.

Not only that but his behaviour is ‘priced in’ to a certain extent. In 2016 he said he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and he wouldn’t lose a vote. I think that, in 2024, he’d actually get more votes, which feels both mad but right!
Offering vague promises of much lower taxes, cheaper gas and food, sorting out the migrants whose fault all this is as well as focussing only on America and, finally, couple all that with the conspiracy theories (Trump been fitted up, it’s all MSM lies) and before you know where you are you’ve got Greg Stillson in the White House……

careful now.... ur pushing it with that post. the dictators on this thread will have u banned before u even know it. Ur not allowed to post anything pro trump here. either switch sides or delete this.

I really hope so - but the betting on Betfair has been shortening for Trump during the morning. 1.61 now for Trump and 2.6 for Harris - that is a big margin in a 2-horse race

Others have said that the betting is skewed - but money is clearly going on Trump and people don't normally actively throw money away

I wish I had enough confidence in what people say - could make good profit on Harris (if she wins)
It’s helpful to remember that the same people that used their life savings to buy stock in Trump’s empty shell media meme company (and maxed out their credit cards to buy his golden garbage shoes, coins, watches, NFTs, etc.) are the ones dominating the bettings markets.

These people make it their mission every day to throw away money in their support of Trump.

Relatively few punters will be Harris backers, as the vast majority of her supporters aren’t gambling addicts looking to “own the libs” by pumping the market for a Trump win. Their money goes directly to her campaign, local nonprofits, or to much more sensible investments.

The betting markets were wrong in the 2022 election cycle and I reckon they are even more wrong this cycle.
