US Presidential Election, Nov 5th 2024

Some of the 2017 Trump tax changes sunset next year, and I expect there's going to be further action on the Ireland issue and base erosion generally, whether directly or by lowering the US corporate rate. In my view Ireland has been on borrowed time with respect to American tax revenues for years now as it's an easy spot to gain revenue without alienating anyone domestically. We'll see.
I fear you’re not wrong.

Such a contrast. Obama, Sanders, other prominent Democrats congratulating Trump and hoping for unity.

Trumps mob, Elon, Don Jr etc encouraging you to laugh at and mock people who voted Democrat.

Its going to be a fucking awful 4 years for our American friends.

I reckon it will actually be worse for other parts of the world. Fuck living in Ukraine right now. They are about to be abandoned.

It is interesting how much anger there is from the conservatives still. I’m like wtf, you won!!! At least be happy for a few days.

Well if that is the reason why let me ask you this. You know all this about Trump, his tactics, his propaganda etc. are you in a privileged position to know this? Are you directly involved in politics so have a deeper insight than the common man? Are you smarter than everyone else? I imagine the answer is no. You’re like most people. So if you know this about trump, I know this about trump, why don’t the masses in America? The answer is the majority do. They just don’t care, because they have other priorities.

And it’s those priorities that you have to try and understand because simply taking the moral high ground isn’t working is it.
The majority don't. Very few people actually watch cable news, and even if they do it is usually a very polarised view.

The majority of people who voted for Trump won't have a clue who E Jean Carroll is, let alone point her out in a lineup, yet Trump is adjudicated in civil court to have sexually assaulted her.

Ask any of his die-hard supporters how many times he's been declared bankrupt, and they'll give you a suprised look because they've all swallowed the NBC version of Trump, the strongman business genius who built a huge property empire from the pittance left to him by his father. They don't realise that if he'd actually take the money his father gave him and put it in the bank that he'd have made more money than he has now and way less liabilities.

after hearing about a number of high school kids celebrating Trumps win yesterday (we live in an extremely blue area), I made my older teenagers (non voting age) sit down and listen to why their father and I vote Democratic. Nothing anti Trump or specific to anyone running. Just these are the values important to us. One of my kids use to kneel at his America flag football games when he was 8 like Kapernick…but I’m still so concerned that they’ll get swept up into the cult of personality figures. (And don’t worry, my lesson was a short one).

There was talk on CNN this morning that Trump might make her Attorney General!!!
Aileen will almost certainly be nominated for AG or for the next open SC justice seat IMO. She's damaged her credibility badly, though, so perhaps some Republican Senators will vote not to confirm. Republicans will have at least a two-seat advantage in the Senate - https://www.apmresearchlab.org/us-house-senate-control-2025 - (plus the VP as tie-breaker), and might have as many as a five-seat advantage. Remains to be seen how much the Republicans will be able to pass on straight party-line votes.

May be a real Tweet maybe not but this is about to be the wakeup call that hits America

That’s bollocks. Musk won’t let him make any significant tariffs, he's very much against them. We might seem nominal tariffs that are more political than economic but he isn’t going to put a blanket 60% tariff on china like he claimed.
