Frightening times now for minorities in America.
It'a as if they looked at Farage's Brexit and thought: "you call that self-destruction? Watch this!"
The genie of hatred and racism is well and truly out of the bottle now, endorsed by the president-elect and shills like Musk, Johnson, Morgan and Farage.
I could weep for America right now and, after all the bluster, bolloks and bigotry of this charlatan/common crook, nothing of any positivity will come out of it and American most definitely won't be great again for a long,.long time. If ever.

As an American, well, we're about to be subject the the Chinese curse - "May you live in interesting times."

Trump will damage Democracy in America as much as he can during the next 4 years of his term. The checks against his abuse of power remain - The House, The Senate, The Supreme Court and State Governments.

Even though Republicans control all branches of federal government - there's been indication that some nominally loyal Republicans will balk at extreme abuse of power (likely to manifest mostly in the Senate and I think in SCOTUS).

State Government too will oppose Trump as best they can.

Is Trump going to end Democracy in America as we know it? Beats me. I think there's a strong possibility of that happening though.

What might happen in the worst case? Well, Trump might declare martial law to protect against illegal invasion by immigrants. He'd then begin to mass deport immigrants using the army. Having declared martial law, he'd then move to disband SCOTUS if they objected to him. The free press would have long since ceased to exist as Trump would move to void broadcast licenses for any entity he deemed unfaithful to his aims.

In short, American Democracy might end completely under Trump in the next 4 years. I'm not saying that this scenario is a forgone conclusion, or even that it's likely... it is though, very, very possible.

The bellwether for doomsday as outlined above is what happens to the free press. If Trump is able to silence the press through some means or another - then the USA is firmly on the path to fascist authoritarianism.
I suspect the real damage will be to eviscerate any opposition via "lawfare" from his followers and then codified by SCOTUS. Gerrrymandering by the GOP will become more widespread, challenges will be beaten down by Trump appointed Judiciary, the DEM Party will become a tokenistic opposition, the Plutocracy will obtain, given their might this will colour and govern the world politic for longer than I'm likely to be alive.

Was that what I said?

I thank you for your response. Good luck to you.
And there we have it.
Triumphalism, cloaked in supercilious civility..
I wouldn't be too satisfied with myself if I were you pal.
So in return I'd wish you good luck but with the adjoiner, in future be careful for what you wish for.

Trump fell and went crawling to daddy to bail him out. He also convinced banks to lend him a fuck ton of money he never intended to pay back. That's the mark of a conman not a businessman.

Biden devoted his life to public service. Trump devoted his life to grifting and cheating.
I think there's at least a reasonable suspicion that the only reason he was bailed out was the uderwriting of his position(s) by his backers from Russia.

Spot on. Twitter was virtually unusable the last two week as it was just spammed to fuck by Elons tweets lying about everything and weird AI pictures of Trump wrestling rhinoceroses

I keep reading this. But I use Twitter to follow City and I haven't been swamped with anything. I got a bit of bullshit a few months ago, reported I wasn't interested and it's been pretty clear ever since. Anyone else? Maybe I was just lucky.

If you're from the UK, chances are they're not going to be promoting US election stuff to you unless you have a history of looking it up. I haven't used it for a long time, but the BBC did an experiment with dummy 'undecided voter' accounts on social media for this election.

One key thing that came out is that Elon Musk's posts were heavily promoted, and a lot of those were blatantly promoting conspiracy nonsense and promoting Trump.

It was quite an interesting article.

People must have short memories. There is zero chance of that. Trump first tine round, Boris Johnson, Farage, the Brexit campaign, Steve Bannon, the NHS bus, Gove. These things didnt happen by accident they all followed a play book and discussed it with eachother and followed what worked. We now have no relationship with the EU because of it. We wont get into bed with America because what do we offer them and what can we offer them? Fuck all
Bases.

I was thing exactly the same thing. Plus, there is the NHS and possibly medical insurance. The yanks will chuck us a few crumbs for those.

The poster was correct, none of those things happened in isolation. There was a reason for Trump being pro Brexit
