Using City's History

With the state of my memory a much needed resource - should have noticed it before but I ´ll be using it on a regular basis in the future so cheers Gary for the heads up

Thanks for all the comments. They are much appreciated. I didn't realise so few City fans were aware of the history section and the free material we've made available there. As always it's worth highlighting that this is the product of decades of research by several people and that we all owe Ric a debt for agreeing with me 3 years ago that it needs to be available and then doing the software updates/developments to make it accessible around 2 years ago. So many have contributed over the decades and long may we continue to work together to do stuff like this.

Please spread the word about the history site to all Blues and let them know what we've got. Thanks. In a similar way my article on the birth of association football in Manchester can be downloaded for free from: http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10. ... 013.873075 I don't know how long it will be free for, so get it while you can. It's published in an academic journal so it's a different style to my normal writing but I'm sure some of you will be interested.

In the meantime if you've ideas on how the history section can be updated/improved then let us know. If enough people know and use it we may be able to add other stuff. Thanks again. I really do appreciate the feedback.

Got one question from a fellow supporter:

What scottish football club do manchester city fc has close connection with? Or are there a Scottish club the city fans appreciate more than others?

Great information as always Gary, got to know Steve Kay quite well and it was Steve who got in to checking my run of games and keeping me posted, great bloke, sadly missed by all who knew him. Ray Goble produced the first real quality 'Complete Record' type of books to the best of my knowledge(this is probably scarce now?), then a revised version came out a few years later, and all of these have been admirably backed up by yourself, Breedon Books (Andrew Ward?) etc etc. Now we are spoilt for choice of course, and it is hard work keeping up to date with all the publications coming out, can you tell us anything about Manchester City, 'a backpass through history' just released by Michael O'Neill - hard back book with 4 dvds for £40, not cheap, but if you could advise, it would be appreciated. all the best Sean

Per, I am not qualified in any way on this subject, suffice to say City have at times done business and played friendlies against the vast majority of, if not all, the clubs from the Cities of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee etc. As a City fan growing up in the 70's, our neighbours across the road had close links with Glasgow Celtic. (they were of course the first two British teams to win the European Cup, Rod Stewart even mentioned both clubs names in one of his songs!). At school, it was common for lads to pick a Scottish team as their second one, some City fans, myself included, counted Glasgow Rangers as our 'second' team, although I hasten to add this wasn't on religious grounds. (We just did the exact opposite to what any United fan did!) .One thing our Club prides itself on, and rightly so, is it welcomes fans regardless of race, colour and creed. Therefore you will find just as many Blues who have no interest whatsoever in Scottish teams, as those who do. (those who do being older generation supporters like myself who grew up with an interest in teams North of the Border). City have had supporters links with Hearts which goes back a few decades, the Ardmillan branch of their supporters club (which used to be close to Murrayfield, not sure if it still is), has the walls decorated with MCFC memorabilia as well as Hearts. City also have links with the town of Selkirk, where there is a memorial for the late great Bobby Johnstone, who was born there, and served Hibs and City with distinction in the 50's. There is plenty more and I am sure other Blues on this forum will give you further information than I can, but hope this gives you some insight. Cheers Sean

Thanks for the great addition to the site and have used it from day one.Think i asked ric not long after is was set up if we could have final league tables.
I love looking at past seasons and then think where did we finish that season, i know i can find it elsewhere but would be nice to have it here.
Anyway keep up the great work gary and ric.

The videos section is extremely interesting - maybe it had been there before and I was unaware of it. Footage from All-Lancashire Cup Derby against the rags in 1926 - wow!

Looks like hundreds of other interesting videos as well.

Thats my Sunday night taken care of.

Just watched that semi final at Bramall Lane,as I was brought up in Sheff after moving there from Denton I was interested to see that there appears to be a building opposite the John St Stand on the site on which the cricket ground later appeared.

The best thing about the brilliant history section is the quick links to youtube footage of games.
