Using City's History

The videos section is extremely interesting - maybe it had been there before and I was unaware of it. Footage from All-Lancashire Cup Derby against the rags in 1926 - wow!

Looks like hundreds of other interesting videos as well.

Thats my Sunday night taken care of.

Just watched that semi final at Bramall Lane,as I was brought up in Sheff after moving there from Denton I was interested to see that there appears to be a building opposite the John St Stand on the site on which the cricket ground later appeared.
Is it the pavilion itself? The ground was a cricket ground at the time (in fact it was a cricket ground first and Joe Mercer later told stories of his time as Sheff U manager when it was made perfectly clear to him that cricket would always be 1st at Bramall Lane - of course that changed in the 70s!) and for the semi final some did sit in the distance watching from the pavilion.

Thanks for all the hard word, Gary, Ric and as Gary mentions, Roy and the other forerunners. I use it for my writing and find it very useful. The memory can play tricks, and it is always good to have the facts to hand. I used Steve Kay's site a lot. I only knew him to say hello to selling/buying fanzines. Nice bloke. So sorry he Dennis, John and anyone who put up with a lot of hard times couldn't witness what City have achieved now. RIP.

The pavilion was opposite the John Street Stand, set back from where the South Stand is now (towards the far end of the car park behind the South Stand). As Tblisi and Gary probably know, that South Stand was a major millstone round the neck of Sheff U for years and accelerated their decline from 6th place in 75/75 in the Old Division One to the Fourth Division.

This link shows where the pavilion was (See 2nd pic from the left). Just off Cherry Street

The first match my late Dad ever took me to (Mum's side of the family are from S Yorks) was Sheff U v Stoke in Spring '75 and the South Stand was under construction and boarded off. There some proper players playing for both (Woodward & Currie for the Blades...Geoff Hurst (yes, him), Jimmy Greenhoff, Peter Shilton, Dennis Smith, Alan Hudson (what a player). The next season we went to see one game (Sheff U v Liverpool - well Kevin Keegan was playing!) the South Stand was open - the Blades were marooned at the bottom of the table (not to return to the 1st Division for 14 years). Still a nice stand, if a little dated (pretty sure they were wooden seats!) but haven't been for a couple of years. Sorry to go on...have a soft spot for the two Sheffields (except when we play 'em!)

as a housebound disabled blue I wish to thank you for all the hard work and dedication that is put in. I use the site regularly and derive pleasure in being able to watch and talk about" the team we all live for" it has also won (and lost) me a few quid when it solves many an argument on dates scores etc I used to write comments in the MEN but since it sold its soul the website is strangely quite , so its great to have our Bluemoon Forum

Got one question from a fellow supporter:

What scottish football club do manchester city fc has close connection with? Or are there a Scottish club the city fans appreciate more than others?

Per
Norway
When City signed Bobby Johnstone in the '50s it established a connection with Hibernian that lasted for a while but which only old timers in Manchester and Edinburgh will remember now. And sadly HIbs' fortunes have been pretty low of late. Personally I've always liked Raith Rovers, it's a grand name and the fans have a fine old song, "I can't help falling in love with you."

But back on the topic of the thread, the history section is a delight.
