VAR - 2020/21

It’s where we disagree. Human error was NOT acceptable - it’s the reason VAR has been introduced, refs were getting so much wrong it was beyond a joke.
I always gave the ref the benefit of the doubt, the speed of the game is now so fast and players learnt the craft of cheating etc.

so, you can’t give any examples of ‘clear’ diving and a pen decision being given this season

And you can’t give an example of a clear’ offside goal standing.

now I agree it’s early in the season, but for me that’s a promising start , I’d say in the last 10 years before VAR we would have had loads of penalty dives and loads of offside goals standing by now. But let’s keep an eye on this shall we ...

And if there is still very very few If any at all diving penalty’s given and offside goals standing, will you then see the benefit of VAR ? I suspect not.
Pre VAR refs got 98% of decisions right

Let’s make it simple VAR 2 aims consistency no debate/controversy over decisions.
Has it achieved either? No. how can you deny this or still suggest VAR is working because no ‘clear’ offsides have happened yet this season?
As for the craft of cheating as you call it VAR now allows goals scored to be completely controlled by officials they can take play back as far as they need to to rule goals out and decide when and if a review happens or if the error was clear and obvious. It’s a fucking cheats dream. Can’t be arsed debating anymore mate the fact you’re the only person on here who thinks it works should tell you something.

Good read that and yes surprising, but the % doesn’t stack up on major decisions -
Look how many Salah dives were given before VAR was introduced- it was a joke. I can’t recall him winning a penalty by a blatant dive for a long time now. Just for example.

Refs were getting tonnes of abuse and accused of corruption etc. There’s no way fans were more happy with the officials before VAR.

Take it you missed it when I said these points about VAR ?

‘VAR is not great by a far stretch’

‘VAR has got loads wrong’

‘there has been occasions VAR has got it very wrong’

‘VAR has made some bad errors and it’s implementation has not been great’

‘tight marginal calls is where VAR has struggled ‘

... Where we disagree is that I still see VAR as the right way to go for the future of the game, officials need help and VAR also has a opportunity to constantly evolve and improve. I don’t see why that’s such a controversial point of view.

anyhow , you will always just be convinced it’s some part of corruption tool against your club, so yes debating with you is a waste of time.

I admire your strive for perfection @BlueHammer85 I really do. I’d like a perfect officiating system too. But football is played and officiated by fallible individuals and also the tech isn’t accurate for the line calls (we are repeatedly told these are black and white but go looking on FIFAs VAR pages for anything tangible on margin of error and you won’t find it).

I’m not a technophobe. Goal line tech demonstrably works (sorry sheff Utd fans!) so that’s ok with me.

the rest doesn’t. Is it slightly better than before? Maybe. But the trade offs in terms of buzz kill on goals and the ridiculously meticulous way they look to rule goals out (someone was a toe offside 25 passes before the ball hits the net) just isn’t worth it for me.

and the total absence of transparency compared to every other sport that uses tech is the final straw.

Don’t disagree with a lot of that.

As I say, if fans could accept human error and not accuse the referee of corruption every time he gives a bad decision or against the fans team - then I’d happily scrap VAR. but we know that if VAR was scraped fans would still be going mad over everything , look at Milners handball tonight without VAR - you can bet your life Arsenal fans were raging that there’s no VAR in the league cup.

I agree with you on the offside/toe marginal decisions and I think most do, that’s something the FA and governing bodies can improve on. Is it an improvement on a lino keeping his flag down when a player was miles offside and scores. I would say so yes.

either way, I get the criticism and hatred of VAR, it’s just frustrating that if someone like me doesn’t want to go back to the old way of refs making blind guesses it’s treated as such a radical opinion

Opinions are good mate. It’s here to stay and I’ve lost my battle on that. Time will tell if it improves and gets better but at present it’s the thing I like worst about footie

come off it. Just giving a honest opinion.

VAR is not great by a far stretch, but it’s defiantly the way forward after the debacle of refs decisions in the last few seasons before VAR

And by the way, check which team was most hard done by statistically by VAR last season

Statistics don't mean a thing ,a team could be 4 up and have 3 VAR decisions go against them and they still win, whereas at 0-0, 1 bad VAR and the points or the tie is gone.

True, but a Hammers fan, i can tell you our fans feel hard done by. So it's frustrating that i'm classed as a 'FA loving Cockney' that isn't used to bad decisions ,so can't give a opinion.

From matchday 4 starting 3 October 2020
a new interpretation of the handball rule will be implemented!!

https://www.premierleague.com/news/1849937

I guess it won't change much as the refs on the pitch and on VAR are still the same persons evaluating the situations as they like.

And the new way also gives even more room for bias I believe.

Btw, there a some handball examples explained, I just can't find Jota's case just before scoring. Maybe because it clearly wasn't handball...
