Not so much a rant, but the anomalies of officiating.

Tonight was a prime example why the frame rate used for offside is shite, as is the human decision as to when the ball is actually played.

For the first Newcastle penalty, the speed the forward moved, had they decided to use the next frame he would have been at least 30cm offside. The frame used had the ball on the Newcastle players foot. Can't remember which game it was earlier this season but we were denied a goal when they determined offside using a frame after the ball had left the City players foot.

No consistency.

this is the big problem with VAR and offside. but they know how to use it for or against teams
the ball leaving the boot is a timescale to fast for the video technology they are using. to pin it down to the moment it leaves the boot is a blur and like you said the difference of 30cm or more could be offside

also the other problem is the line of sight if the camera levels are not bang on like last night. you could see clearly the camera was not in line and way off from level and inline ? the light of sight is crazy and can make paul dickov look bigger than niall quinn

the VAR technology they are using is poor and without proper setup like laser inline video camera at both sides of the pitch its going to be wrong. much like with the goal line technology the technology is far better and i bet it could be setup to use on a full pitch

Ha ha. Ref blows for a Leeds corner but VAR was called to check for a potential penalty to Leeds. Pen wasn't given but could see from the VAR replay that it wasn't a corner as it came off a Leeds player. Because VAR doesn't check for corners, a corner was still given as that was the original decision.

To arbitrate knowing it's wrong but continuing with the original decision just shows how poor the use of VAR is.

I'm sure in the first half on Saturday, chelsea were attacking and a player looked offside but the liner never flagged, play carried on without a city player touching the ball, chelsea kept the ball and worked it to near the box where they got the free kick,but a replay showed they were originally off side,and they were allowed to take the free kick, that cannot be right.

It's just happened today, Saints v Fulham. Ings looks offside going for a through ball, but fails to control and the defender knocks it out for a corner. If Ings had scored it would have been reviewed, and more than likely ruled out, but Saints were able to carry on with the corner and possibly rewarded after being offside. Now what if they scored from the corner?

And therein lies the problem, scrap pulling it back if they score if he's offside then the defending side should get a free kick else what is the point of linesmen/women? The other issue is linos being told to keep their flag down some do some don't.. Confused.com

This is the single worst thing about VAR. The equipment is just not accurate enough to measure within a few cms. It is open to abuse. They need to make allowances for these flaws. The simplest way is for the referee to watch the video if he is not sure and if the attacker looks level to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Even though I wanted leicester to win, that is gutting for chelsea, those player celebrations for nothing. VAR is utter bollocks. All for a mm offside call.
