VAR - 2020/21

I don't want centimetres to decide whether I can celebrate a goal and I am sick of them moving the lines to suit their agenda. Mason, pigmob, VAR it is a sick joke

No doubt that will count as a decision "in our favour" for those counting these things, when in reality it was a wrong decision against us in the first place.

Personally I'd ban them from using the lines and then say if you can't tell from just the camera footage, then either give the goal or go with the linesman's decision. They're acting as if the technology isn't grossly insufficient to decide these things, and painting lines on the screen as if they're evidence one way or another. If you don't have high-speed cameras, then you don't really know.

Can anyone clear up whether offside VAR decisions are subject to a clear and obvious test? The premier league websites suggests they ARE and ARE NOT

is it just me, or is this totally confusing?

After EVERY goal we score my first initial thought is "have I missed something there and will VAR rule it out.".?

The spontaneous excitement of seeing your team score a goal has been taken away from me..

It's a huge part of what makes football special and the ****'s in charge have ruined it..

VAR has been in place for 2 seasons now and it's fkin killing the game..

WBA v Brighton at the weekend was not acceptable and I see the useless ref Mason is now injured and won't be reffing at the weekend..

When was the last time a ref was injured ?

It's fkin shady as fuck..

Get the fuckers mic'd up and exposed for the corrupt cheats they are..!

I still fucking hate it. Takes all the joy out of the moment when your team score a goal.

Genuinely, I'd rather a few incorrect decisions cost us points throughout the season.

Yeah I’d also agree with this. Though I do like the “yes! No! Yes!” When it over rules an erroneous offside flag.

Offside not subject to “clear and obvious” judgement mate.

What that’s saying is that where there is a “clear and obvious” goal scoring opportunity, the lino shouldn’t flag until that phase of play has ended and if it results in a goal, var will check it.

It’s poorly worded as it confuses two different “clear and obvious” meanings. One relating to an error and one relating to what’s happening on the pitch and may occur.

Var took away nothing last night but actually gave us a goal that wouldn’t have been given.

The second time in a row that happened with var over ruling that linesperson.
It did take away something. It took away the joy of celebrating goals. If a fan cannot do that, cannot enjoy that instant hit of adrenaline then I might as well watch chess.

Oh I’d rather it was fucked off for sure.

I’m obviously talking about how var worked last night seeing as it is in use.

Re last night, linesman flagged on both so we immediately knew they weren’t going to be allowed. Var at least allowed me to cheer again at it being overturned.

The idea of VAR is good. The usage of video replays and pauses to allow referees a clearer view of whether someone is offside.

It's not meant for referees to start doodling lines on the screen, just to see if someone's arm hair is millimetres offside.

I know but how many people score with a shoulder? You can pretty much make the line for the shoulder appear where you like.
I agree. Offside should be measured from the foot.

Measuring from the shoulders, in my opinion, is a little unfair to certain players. It's also affected by players' running style. Pretty much most players have to lean forward to start a run, and it causes them to be offside even if they are miles away from goal. Plus, there are players with bigger body shapes, which naturally already causes them to be disadvantaged by the rule.

Right thanks. So offside calls are black and white off or not then? That’s what I thought but another poster felt that was wrong.

just a mess all this. I hope they sort it out but it doesn’t look like anyone is particularly bothered

the offside doesn’t work but it will be seen as a climb down if anything major is done to it, so guess we are stuck with it

Fair point, I miss understood your post. I will also say that if used correctly I could accept it but both var reviews took ages. If it is that tight a call that they are struggling to decide then it is being misused.
