Are SKY showing it on repeat after every advert break as they did with the "Little Scotty" and Mario incident?
Yeah, it's such a stupid setup. This whole clear and obvious thing is what's created all the diving going on for the last two seasons, players know that they'll generally be rewarded for throwing themselves over at the slightest 'contact' as VAR will only be able to say that there was a slight contact so it's not clear and obvious. Its been said already a few times.
"Clear and obvious" is being used by var teams as a get out,as its obviously not obvious what constitutes "clear and obvious"
;)
There's 2 in the 'VAR studio', so have a quick vote - on field ref says no but the two in studio think it was, then it's 2 to 1 in favour of a penalty so give it, get rid of this clear and obvious nonsense.Yeah, it's such a stupid setup. This is one of the biggest issues for me, VAR has encouraged diving and cheating that and the ridiculousness of the offside farce. I think it could work well to cut out a lot of the issues we have with cheating and genuine mistakes but PGMOL seem to just be concentrating on showing how amazing it is at spottimg mm offsides and not on changing the psychology of the referees in regards to making sure a decision is right. They seem to use binary decisions rather than common sense, like does that toe nail offside give an attacker an unfair advantage or does the ball slightly brushing a players arm make a difference to where it ends up.
I think that were VAR to be ditched we wouldn't even get a second look at the Foden Stonewall Pen. Moss and his ilk would just waft it away like he did last night. At least a referral to VAR might, just might get a decision in our favour. Go on, then, I'm kidding everyone. A hairline decision in our favour? More chance of Mossy taking off and flying round Beswick.I was a strong advocate for bringing VAR in. But since we have had it its clear that those using are not up to the job, and I think we can all agree they have had long enough to get it right. So it should now be consigned to the dustbin. All I would say is the Ref should be made to use the pitchside monitors for red cards and penalty decisions.
But those in Stockley park are a waste of time and VAR ruins the matchgoing experience.
I’m an 60 year old grumpy guy as well. And I’d rather moan about errors from the referee that can be labelled as being humanly mistakes, rather than the wrong decisions taken by VAR who can sit back and watch the incident from every angle over and over again.Ok I admit as an 60 yr old grumpy git I thought I understood football.
I didnt think they was enough of a foul for the Southampton penalty. Yet every pundit and commentator said it was.
There wasn't enough for a grown man to fall over.
Yet on Citys I thought it was a clear cut penalty. So did most pundits.
I dont understand what refs see that I dont.
The thing I dont understand is how everyone can agree the soft penalty. But not everyone can agree on a 100% late lunge on the players standing foot.
I hear people saying scrap VAR but without VAR the Southampton penalty is still given and Citys penalty isnt given. It does help stop the game being bent !
Fair point Dave, But I'm just sick to death of these type of VAR decisions always going against us. And when were allowed to go to games its was much worse, as you couldn't see the replays.I think that were VAR to be ditched we wouldn't even get a second look at the Foden Stonewall Pen. Excellent postLike I said, you have a lot to say on a rivals football forum about incorrect VAR decisions affecting my team..
Oh and there's no fkin chance you'll hear from the VAR official who saw that and deemed it not a penalty so you can 'like to hear from him all you want', it's not happening..!..
And that is a BIG part of why VAR is corrupt..
Btw, I'm not aggressive, it's called passion, it's called wanting my team to get treated fairly where VAR is concerned, it's called fed up to the back teeth with getting shafted by VAR..
I don't need a West Ham fan coming on here telling me everything will be all right in the end..
We've been royally fucked over again tonight, a fucking shocking decision that will no doubt be swept under the carpet..!
When you have seasoned professionals like Souness calling it out for the shit show it is then you know it's bent..
Anyway, you keep banging on about its virtues, it'll keep you relevant once you've exhausted your 'best of a 100 threads'
I'll help you out there, here's your next one..
100 dodgy as fcuk VAR decisions that have been awarded against Man City'..!
You can have that one for free..!
Yet VAR was marketed to us as "replays will be shown on the big screens in the stadium " for transparency...which has never happened...and why havent the 2 supposedly biggest clubs in the world still not been made to install a big screen in their stadium ? wasnt it a requirement of var ?Fair point Dave, But I'm just sick to death of these type of VAR decisions always going against us. The tools to improve it are there and always were. This isn't a case of the technology failing or needing better videos. VAR is being used to the benefit of some teams and to disadvantage of others. Why is there a 15 minute review to give certain teams favorable calls while we can't get a replay of a stonewall penalty? VAR has made thigs worse. It's easier to accept an error in the moment. It's unforgivable to have all the tools to be able to make the right call & still bottle it.my many arguments against VAR seem to get lost in my reasoning to wanting to keep it and debate about ways in which it can improve.
I do highlight the good it can and has done, many goals and decisions have been turned around correctly thanks to it. Other decisions like tonight are unexplainable and it’s the officials that deserve the criticism, not var. var has only highlighted how bad they actually are.
Going forward they have to take a good look at improving this and more importantly the transparency in decisions - I don’t blame anyone for being against it because when it gets it wrong. It’s a complete shambles.
Despite all this and what I consider a reasonable view, it’s clear by the constant digs that my opinion on all this is not welcome so I will take a step back from this topic.
They are the same people and that is probably its biggest problemReferees are disgrace
vAR staff is disgrace
I think that when we were in the stadium, after the Spurs robbery, we just knew that the VAR decisions were always gonna be 95% No goal!!Fair point Dave, But I'm just sick to death of these type of VAR decisions always going against us. And when were allowed to go to games its was much worse, as you couldn't see the replays.
Fair point that. It's a brotherhood and they don't want to be critiquing each other. They are the same people and that is probably its biggest problem
Not piling on here. But to your point, considering what’s been taken away from the game (the pure unadulterated joy of seeing a ball hit the back of the net without worrying whether it might get overturned), I’d happily got back to shit refs. Shit refs are shit, but the experience was on the whole more enjoyable before slightly less shit VAR assisted reffing.then we simply go back to refs making the same shit decisions but on a more regular basis ?
I like many others welcomed the installation of var to stop all the refs from fooking up but instead it’s made things now twice as worse. Like most have said on here there’s no recourse to those at stockley park. What there should be is a independent panel doing it not other referees who don’t want to make their fellow mates looking stupid.when we played spuds at ours and Jesus scored a thunder bastard right at the end of the game and it was chalked off for a perceived handball(that wasn’t) I knew then trouble was ahead.I’m an 60 year old grumpy guy as well. And I’d rather moan about errors from the referee that can be labelled as being humanly mistakes, rather than the wrong decisions taken by VAR who can sit back and watch the incident from every angle over and over again.
Just get rid of VAR.
From the official VAR roll -out regarding communication......".In stadiums with big screens, if the VAR has been involved in changing a decision from the on-field referee, they may broadcast definitive video clips to help explain what has happened."i didn't know that they said that would happen?
Thanks, So I wonder why are they not doing it?From the official VAR roll -out regarding communication......".In stadiums with big screens, if the VAR has been involved in changing a decision from the on-field referee, they may broadcast definitive video clips to help explain what has happened."
Thats been my question from day one along with why the rags and scousers have not been made to install a big screen ?Thanks, So I wonder why are they not doing it?
Sherwood was brilliant, and probably a bit pissed. Had a proper go at the var nonsense and didn't pull any punches.I had Tim Sherwood and SWP on the stream I had and they both agreed that we had a stonewall penalty denied and that the Southampton one shouldn't have been given as it was a dive.
They even spoke to Chris Foy and he agreed that the decisions were wrong and he said that he wouldn't have given the Saints one but would definitely have awarded ours.
He said that VAR probably didn't override the Saints penalty as Laporte did have a hand on his shoulder so the VAR guy couldn't definitively say it was an error amd so they went with the onfield decision. They then had a bit of a debate about why was that a penalty considering what goes on at pretty much every corner in a game and Foy said that's why he wouldn't have given it, there wasn't enough in it to give a penalty for that.
For the Foden penalty none of the pundits or Foy had any idea why it wasn't given in the first place and couldn't even come up with a theory as to why VAR hadn't intervened in that one.
A wrong decision after var review sticks in the craw far longer than wrong one by a ref.I think that were VAR to be ditched we wouldn't even get a second look at the Foden Stonewall Pen.
