Var debate 2019/20

Clear and obvious doesn’t come into it with an offside leading to a goal. Says so in your own post.
VAR will monitor the matches but will be used only for "clear and obvious errors" or "serious missed incidents" in four match-changing situations:

•Goals

Clear and obvious error in goals, what do you read that as?

I think that was just the keeper off the line bit, being left to on field officials. The encroachment rule hasn't changed, its just been ignored for years, good if they're going to apply, so long as its consistently done.

Never seen a penalty without encroachment, if they give the sterling offside we could end up with toe on the line decisions, I think they are making it up as they go along.

The contact with the ball isn't instantaneous, so a player could both be onside and offsite when the ball is kicked with the daft margins they are using. In 1994 they were using 'daylight' for normal offside, surely this should be what they use to overrule a linesman that hasn't flagged.

I've no problem with that, I've said earlier that a law change is needed.

Forgive me if this is obvious, but where do they measure the shoulder starting given a shoulder in this interpretation can be given offside?

For Christ’s sake, from your own post:

“Factual decisions, such as offside or if a foul was committed inside or outside the penalty area, will not be subject to the "clear and obvious error" test.”

Every goal is checked for offside. We’ve been aware that would be the case for months.

I wouldn’t like to be sat near opposition fans having a goal I’ve just celebrated like mad ruled out.. guess fans will have to change the most with var..
Not comfortable with the “when the ball was kicked” ruling .. both could have been given taken away with a microsecond movement on the monitor..
I’d like to see clear daylight being introduced for off side , think it was this many moons ago but still you would get the synario of when was the ball kicked ..

I do agree that the potential for either error, or foul play here, is when the monitor person decides to freeze the frame - the point when a player first makes contact with a ball as they are about to pass it, is not the same point as the point when the ball leaves the players foot. Although tbf, it’s still a whole lot more accurate than using a human being on the touch line, having to look in 2 places at once - or listen to one and look at the other inside an often noisy stadium
