Var debate 2019/20

The margin of a few mm offside would have taken Jesus approx 0.006 seconds (1 x 6000th) to cover. If the moment of release of the pass to him is determined by human eye, then no way can the person get it anywhere near 100% accurate.
DVB-T2 for UK TV digital TV is transmited at 30 frames a second (even for 4K) so decisions are accurate to 1/30th of a second. But, in reality, the accuracy is down to where the video referee thinks the ball is touched to begin the pass movement.
I believe video software companies (including Hawk-eye now owned by Sony) are working on AI to detect this exact moment to make VAR more accurate.

Factual decisions such as offside don’t need to pass the clear and obvious test.

So we know that to be true.

We also know every goal will be checked for offside as they’ve been saying it for months. So every offside, no matter how tight, will be given.

until it's a dipper or rags turn and they'll magically be onside.

Good coverage of both VAR goals by Andy Gray on YouTube. They show that where the VAR people decide impact was made determined offside/onside, but in the two cases today they seem to have been inconsistent. In the first one, the ball is fractionally away and hence offside, but in the second they take it from the moment Mahrez makes contact, which is why Sterling ends up onside. That needs to be consistent.
