Var debate 2019/20

I thought it looked a bit strange, particularly for Dean.

Possibly the linesman flagged? He'd be on this side, and Dean's step back makes him look in his direction.
I haven't seen an angle showing whether it's true.
Even if he's responding to the linesman's flag, that still means he wasn't going to give it, despite being 10 yards away with the best view in the house.

Taking all decisions into account, we were not at the wrong side of VAR decisions last game. There is no need to be pessimistic just after a week.

As stated , lets see where we are at the end of the season , i suspect we will be in a deficit when it comes to VAR decisions , and that is taking into account the fact we will dominate 90% of matches. Looking at the decisions we have endured over recent seasons i would replace pessimism with realism.

That was my first thought too - that he wasn't giving it. As I said, it was quite strange for a ref who's normally not shy about giving penalties.

l know VAR usually takes longer to rule out a goal, but I've always waited to celebrate on goals that could conceivably be ruled out for offside, to avoid the disappointment.

Yep. And say jesus was totally onside there, fans are happy to just accept that ?

no doubt in my mind that he goes to ignore the penalty and let west ham play on....look at his body shape, he turns and takes a step backwards.....then realises he can't because of VAR

what's the VAR protocol on this one should Dean play on and WHU break away and score? ruled out for a City penalty?

This scenario actually happened in one of the tournaments over the summer. Think it was the u21 Europeans. Anyway, West Ham’s goal would be wiped out and City given a penalty. Ridiculous situation we are now in. VAR has got to work instantly like goal line technology or be thrown out.

Playing on would only be if no official saw something obvious.
In this case, either the ref or linesman saw it, and there was no need to wait for a review before giving it.

As @seafordblue says, the Nations League semifinal between Portugal and Switzerland had a penalty awarded to Portugal (but not taken) annulled as VAR showed a foul (and a penalty) to Switzerland shortly beforehand.
