This does demand a proper investigation as to why ref was shown the inconclusive angles.

They show it once and then cnuts completely take the replay away. So unfortunate and sad tbh

I wasn’t going to say it, as I hadn’t seen that angle so couldn’t be sure, but this does support my belief that VAR will be largely implemented and used in order to allow them to maintain plausible deniability in still getting certain calls wrong, when it suits them.

In this case, I said at the time to a mate that they were oddly only prominently showing the one angle to Cakir that made it very difficult to discern if it his arm. There were about 5 others available and they only showed two on his screen, and he ignored the other one (which was also a better angle), instead discussing the dubious one with the VAR official via his mic.

And save this post: when faced with this evidence, and having reviewed with VAR, they will just say something to the effect of “well, we only have a limited time to review and cannot look at all of the angles; we depend on the VAR team to highlight the best camera angles to review.”

We didn’t lose tonight because of VAR, but it certainly didn’t help us.

Looking that Llorente's goal more and more, I'm starting to change my mind and think that shouldn't be allowed. It did change the trajectory of the ball.

But even if we have different opinions about that, the most criminal part is that the ref didn't have a choice to see that best angle and think differently about his decision. With the angle being shown to him, even Guardial would chalked that goal off.

We can argue handball, we can argue offside what I would like to know is if Rashford , Bobby Firminho or the diving pharaoh had scored that winning goal or Messi had just "won" it for Barca what would VAR had seen then ? Think we know the answer to that .

VAR was supposed to reduce controversy, seems to be the opposite. Even down to different angles of incidents giving different verdicts. Like the rags pen in Paris, you can spend a year analysing this and never be certain.

Probably best to mentally move on to Saturday though.

If I take my tinfoil helmet off for a minute, I reckon the reason it wasn’t shown to the referee is because those adjudicating never looked at that angle before coming to their decision. I’m sure they probably would have shown it and disallowed the goal if they had.It’s only when they show a goal on the main site from every angle that you appreciate how many angles there are, so the questions really are whose camera captured that image and why can a panel of reviewers not see all angles before deciding?

It’s quite simple, they wanted it to stand.......as the headlines say this morning ‘ Spurs prove it’s not all about money’ . We are hated, take your pick of reasons.

I’m not sure whether this rule is in place now but as of next season a goal will not be given if an attacker gains an advantage from using his hand/arm even if its unintentional.

So their goal should not have stood. However, we benefitted from a similar decision against Arsenal earlier in the season when Kun scored. Shit happens but we’ve only ourselves to blame.

Having a goalkeeper who is a distinctly average shot stopper doesn’t help at this level. Neither does your star striker missing a penalty and best CB gifting the opposition two goals.

This is how I see it, everyone blaming pep or VAR but a couple of our star players let us down
