Var debate 2019/20

I thought the two shouts for penaltys on Gundogan & Silva were debatable and could go either way.

I didn't see the handball one whilst at the game, as it was down the other end, and i wasn't even aware it had happened until i saw the highlights when i got home, but having seen it and given what penaltys were given for last year in this competiton i can't understand why it wasn't given. Was it picked up straight away on TV, and did they offer any explanation as to why it wasn't given?

I was certain the one on Aguero was a penalty when it happened, and was very surprised it wasn't given by VAR. On the highlights it still looked like a stonewall penalty, the ref gave a corner, but on the replay i saw it looked like Aguero was fouled and had the last touch before it went out of play, did they say why that hadn't been given on the Commentary?

Savage was adamant they were both penalties.
Humphreys in the studio was too.
Walton (ex-ref) also agreed and couldn't offer any explanation why VAR didn't overturn either.

Walton thought Gundogan looked and stepped into the defender just before the Aguero challenge, and therefore the ref's decision on that was supportable.

The only good thing was the pundits etc at least called VaR out last night. Even Walton did not try to justify it

What seems strange to me is that pigmol were supposedly given an ultimatum preseason to ref VAR same as CL rules

Obviously pigmol didnt agree and they have their own pigmol rules for PL, eg not referring ref to pitchside monitors and

having the infamous high bar, eg VAR siding with ref on subjective penalty given or not given so in effect VAR in PL will

agree with ref if he gives it or doesnt give it LOL. Pigmol having their own wider silhouette for defensive handball situations.

Have the CL now decided to VAR review on pigmol high bar? as the handball last night would undoubtedly have been given by CL VAR team last season, certainly from the knockout stages onwards? and the VAR team not instructing ref to review pitchside at least one of the other penalty claims seems to follow pigmol advice?

Handball nailed on penalty.

Sterling was a decent tackle when reviewed and i wouldnt have given it.

Gundog was rugby tackled, penalty and Kun had his foot stood on so penalty.
Whilst waiting for the ball to come out of the air Gundo looked for the opposition player and proceeded to back up into him to initiate the contact.
The other two definitely should’ve been penalties.

So you’ve seen the incident again and still claim it was a penalty?
We run the risk of looking silly if we claim non-penalties should’ve been given. Gundo went looking for the player and I didn’t need Walton to tell me that, same goes for the one on Raz and the one on Silva - I’m pretty sure there were loads of posts in the match day thread saying they should’ve been given as well.

Penalty all day long as the defender goes for the ball, doesnt get anywhere near it and lands on top of and brings Gundog down.

Its a foul anywhere else on the pitch so in the box its a penalty.
