Var debate 2019/20

I was of the understanding that VAR was for clear and obvious mistakes and for me the offside decision for Sterling was ridiculous. The way this is going ruins the spontaneity of the game.

Also, they measured from Sterling’s shoulder yesterday but the Liverpool one from last season was measured from the players feet. It doesn’t seem to be a very consistent approach.

Forget the clear and obvious for goals. Every goal is getting reviewed for offsides, handballs, fouls in the build up etc.

so it works for all the other 17 clubs but United and Livepool's goals get through the net, 'pardon the pun' i'd say they the FA need investigating rather than introducing VAR
Very true, although the introduction of predetermined standards of use for VAR would put some of the future question marks to bed.

According to the FA... Website

A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched**

And

The first point of contact of the 'play' or 'touch' of the ball should be used

Surely it cannot be that difficult to implement technology that automatically identifies which frame was the first touch of the ball and take that judgment out of the hands of a human operator. Actually to ensure benefit of doubt is given to the attacking side it should be the frame before the first touch.
If that is the case then Sterling was onside when he played in Jesus, as well as the in the “dink” over the keeper goal.

You misunderstood.

The offside law isn’t required to meet the “clear and obvious test” when a goal is scored and every goal is reviewed for offside.

It is precisely because of errors like the one you quote that VAR is in place.

The main thing is consistency and correct decisions.
On that score it has been a good weekend for var so far.
You clearly haven’t seen how Andy Gray has brought it into question 28/seconds is not enough to determine for sure when the ball was kicked

Artificial Intelligence could be used but the issue is there isnt enough frames to determine 28/sec is the current Tv standard

Andy is wrong on it being filmed at 28 frames per second as he is wrong on virtually every thing.

Andy Gray will get his information from the technicians that he is surrounded by in a Tv studio If you watch the video he explains this and demonstrates the difference between each frame on both of the City goals

Why was there no VAR review in the rags 3rd and 4th goal ??

Rashford looked close to being offside and A Chelsea player was fouled / head injury for the 4th

Already selective reviews going on
