Var debate 2019/20

That was a long review for Palace goal. If it is so close and takes so long it should be given.

Why does an error need to be clear and obvious?
Surely if the ref makes an error, if it can be, it should be over-ruled to get to the correct decision.
Isn’t that what fans want?
This is what i thought we were getting, that's i fought passionately on here for it,listen very carefully..i shall say this only once..i was wrong

The only time VAR worked was the World Cup. But then it was really used, the refs would look at the monitor and the rules of the game were being implemented. If it was the foul in the box, it was foul in the box, no this bullshit clear and obvious errors that changed nothing from the times when there was no VAR, refs still can influence 95% of controversial situations with no vlear and obvious error bullshit.

But moaning fucking old ****s couldn't deal with the game being stopped 2-3 times and football authorities couldn't wait to fulfill their wishes and make it barely used at all and making a miracle of overturning the ref's decisions. It will never got rid again, but it didn't bring anything to the football and moaning old ****s are guilty for that.

Var, where to start? they should stick to things that they can get right, offsides are better decided now even tho the wait is not good and the lino can still stop play with a wrong flag!! Use it to check things the ref does not give or see such as off the ball incidents etc. As for the penalty decisions, it has gone tits up,we get this talk of the bar being set high when they dont give a pen, but the bar is low as fook when the ref gives a soft one and they uphold it, totally contradictory. It is in danger of becoming more sinister than helpful, faceless people deciding the main points in a game, taking the pressure off the refs so they dont get the flak from the fans, its almost like it has been implemented to give more power to the football associations to make their own decisions on game outcomes while saving the refs a load of abuse at the same time, a win win for them, and their objectives, a lose lose for football. Oh, and I was for it beforehand as well, but now Im not sure, maybe if the ref just signals for a var check for a penalty rather than make a decision himself, then var would have no pressure to uphold the refs, maybe this would make their job more straightforward, and transparent too. Otherwise they should go back to the drawing board with certain aspects, but while they are getting what they want then it looks like its here to stay.

Because fans were not happy with game being stopped few times

When they talk about bar being high, it's about overturning ref's decision, not about softness of the incident that leads to ref's call. They would never ever overturn today's penalty based on that directive as there was an element that can't make it clear and obvious error. The only solution is to main ref see it again and judge if he was eventually conned in the real time and to think if he would make different decision if he saw it few times more. I'm not sure the ref would overturn his decision today, but I am absolutely sure he wouldn't give us that kind off penalty and with current directive of the fucking bar, he would never have a chance to see it again.

Var is complete bullshit without main referee seeing the things again on the monitor. When it comes to penalties the ref's decision won't be overturned in at least 90% of cases because of fucking bar and the monitor is worthless as it is never being used by refs. Basically, whenever VAR is used, someone else is reffing the game, not the main referee. It's bullshit.

VAR was wonderful idea that could have made a game better, but the fans did all they could to ruin it and help authorities to make it unworthy. Authorities never wanted it anyway.

Back from the game.
Gutted we lost.

Totally correct outcome for VAR to overturn the offside decision , it’s gone against my team tonight but so what ? It’s the fair outcome - much rather that than the days walking out of stadium knowing the other team have scored a goal offside or dived for a penalty etc and the ref was utterly useless.

VAR is very much needed and it’s proving how many incorrect decisions previously stood.

Only criticism is the wait for the decision - if they can speed this up would be better.

When the refs used to check the screens, the culpability was on them to make the right call and they often did. This system is an absolute joke, there's zero culpability, they just say the 'check' is over and continue with the game. We have no one to question on the call, no rationale provided despite the images and video footage proving the contrary. This implementation of VAR is prone to corruption allegations.

As things stand with penalties, the ref makes a decision, var checks it, uses the clear/obvious error excuse to uphold a wrong call/or not, whichever suits them and nobody gets the blame. So, if the ref asks for a penalty check without making a decision himself then there is no decision to uphold, this means that a clear and independent review is made with no pressure to uphold the ref, thus taking away any clear error excuse and putting pressure on the var crew to actually make the right call. This might be enough to force them into making honest decisions, especially if a higher body is set up to oversee var panels performances or such like.

Yep, exactly that. It worked on World Cup as they did check any potential situation. But then everybody moaned about VAR slowing the game down and we have this shit now where they don't have any responsibility and don't give a fuck. Even if they make mistake, they can always put it down to the VAR.

Anyway I'm here just to say, I fooking told you so. Look at my previous posts, earlier in threads about VAR.
I've always said this is just another layer of blame. It's absolute shite and will be the ruination of the game.
To all those that said I was a dinosaur and couldn't handle change. Na na na na na ;-)

No drop in fan base
No drop in viewing figures
No drop in anything.

It’s usual social media outcry when there’s a change in a system, people won’t like it at first, will be a big hoo rah every now and then but in a couple years fans will adjust and it won’t be debated and moaned about.

Let’s not forget, before VAR , practically every match was overshadowed by referring performances and debated about endlessly.

Just stick to goal line technology (which is amazing) and fuck VAR off before the games completely ruined. It’s an absolute farce.

Offsides were kinda working so far, but with new UEFA directive that VAR would be used only for clear and obvious offsides too, we'll now see inconsistency on them too.

Just watching the rugby, a sport that I know little about. One thing though is obvious - the refereeing and application of “var” is utterly clear to all, no room for bias, but I suppose that’s the difference between corrupt and non corrupt sports, no pandering here to utd, dippers, bayern, Barca, madrid. And they treat their paying fans with respect, and let them know exactly what’s been decided, and what. Fifa, uefa, pl and fa are as blind and bent as fuck

Big difference is, rugby fans accepted VAR, can have a beer in the stands, mingle with opposition fans and enjoy the sport without crying corruption at every point - I’m sure it took a few years to get VAR in Rugby right, fans have allowed it to progress. It’s been bought in for Tennis, Rugby - but fans that have been screaming corruption for years and years don’t want it to be bought into football ? The mind boggles.

So Palace would have had a perfectly good match winning goal ruled out for offside tonight and that’s not a farce ?

At this point of time, fans are entitled to scream a corruption as it's inconsistency is mind boggling. and the fucking high bar makes it worthless for anything bar offsides. Refs can pretty much do whatever they want now just as they did before it as their initial decision is almost never changed.

Fans are very guilty for that though as it was working pretty good when refs were checking the screens but they moaned about that slowing the game and now we got this shit.

But we’re able to see what the officials are seeing now - it’s far more harder for them to be corrupt than previously before.
Previously a team could score a perfectly good goal and a ref could blow his whistle and cancel the goal, just say he saw a shove or something - same for a Lino, they could just flag for whatever reason. And people prefer that old system ?!

Karen, you and the premier league thought it was a good idea, what no one bargained for was the employment of poor officials to view var who are supporting the poor officials on the pitch, following a set of instructions and rules that are in short, not fit for purpose.

Today in the England V Argentina rugby world cup game, Argentina's Lavanini was sent off for a dangerous tackle on England's Owen Farrell, during the play referee Nigel Owens was clearly heard on the ref's mic that there was no foul play, at the next stoppage the television match official asked the ref to look again, he had no problem doing so and reserved his decision.

The premier league and it's officials could learn a lot from the way rugby manage it's version of var.
