Sounds promising. What is the published margin of error?

Not sure but personally I have a lot more confidence in it. There will also be no more waiting around for 5 minutes looking for the right frame and for the VAR to decide where to draw the lines on the pitch. They've used it in UEFA competitions for the last few years and it's barely noticeable which can only be good.

There is a chip in the ball that produces an image of the pitch and the line is drawn automatically rather than by a human. From what I've seen it shows much more clearly whether there's an offside or not
the report i read said not using this system as Adidas own rights and PL use nike balls
but theres loads of different opinions

I’ve just been googling and FIFA say it’s the most accurate offside technology there is but don’t say what the margin of error is. Apparently Victoria University in Oz did some research on its effectiveness but I can’t see their published findings

It's strange that video technology works perfectly well in rugby union, rugby league, cricket and tennis but in football it's a total mess. Is this just a reflection of how badly the F.A. and the Premier League are running the game?

It's was better without it. There are just as many bad decisions as there were before and just as many people crying bent after every game. It's ruining the most fun aspect of the game - goals. What's the point of keeping it? Automated decisions might be better but it probaly wont. It will likely lead to more marginal decisions, players a toenail off side. There's a reason football is the most beloved sport of the last 150 odd years why keep trying to change things? We need to accept human error is part of the game and work at ensuring corruption is prevented instead of robots

It needs to be added that the handball law was changed with VAR being brought in, presumably to replace subjective intentional handball with the supposedly objective t shirt bullshit where now no one has any fucking idea if it's a penalty when the ball hits an arm in the penalty area.

And whilst BT and Sky will never admit it, they will secretly love VAR as it's the one area where you get a better viewing experience watching on TV, seeing multiple super slow-mo angles, than at the game where you wait for 3 minutes to get a message on the screen saying VAR are looking into it. And they will then love the controversy it generates.

And looking at tackles in super slow-mo actually gives a distorted impression and makes them appear much worse than they are leading to more red cards.

And if there's a high tackle in the middle of the pitch there's a tendency now for referees to give a yellow card and leave it to VAR to overrule them, so it's leading to refs fudging decisions which isn't going to lead to better officiating.

And the waiting around for decisions disrupts the entire flow of the game

And the biggest fucking irony of all is when they are checking offsides to the millimetre they don't then add all the fucking time it takes back on.

Fuck it right off.
