VAR Discussion Thread - 2023/24 | PL clubs to vote on whether to scrap VAR (pg413)

Would you want VAR scrapped?

Keep VAR, but change the rules around it. Tennis rules. Each team has an option to use it 3 times per game (and the ref can still use it as well, ofc). I wouldn't go as far as to say that if you are right (like in tennis) you don't waste the check, but 3 checks per game should be allowed.
Makes it more complicated than it already is…

It is not a good look that they dont have screens , smacks of favouritism , the promoted teams have to have them put it
Way back when var was being discussed it was a prerequisite to have a big screen yet the rags and dippers still haven't implemented it

So far this competition has had no real Var controversy. It didn't today even during the Netherlands v France game until the English Var official took 3 hours to make a decision.
Even the co commentator made reference to the stupid amount of time it took and that no other game had had this problem.
Var is only a joke when run by dick heads, sadly we seem to have them all.

And if VAR worked like this all the time you would want to keep it ?

I agree there's less controversy but it's only really the equivalent of 2 PL rounds of weekend fixtures so far.

Having been to two Rugby matches at Twickenham today - you can scrap the whole ‘why does VAR work in Rugby but not football’

Some of the video reviews took fucking ages and no one was sure what they were for. Want to know the difference? The fans didn’t give a shit, all drink beer and have a good time regardless

I have read a lot of comments about VAR not being accurate enough for offsides due to frame speeds and marginal decisions being dependent on where the VAR operator stops the frame when tbe ball leaves the players foot. If we want to give the benefit of doubt to the attacking team and not rule out marginal goals perhaps they need to completely relook at the order they assess off aides using VAR.

Freeze the frame where the attacking player is level and onside and then look at the ball leaving the players foot. If it's still in contact, then the goal stands.

FIFA/ IFAB claim that the automated systems they now use to determine the exact moment of contact is a matter of fact.

So whether you believe them or not, they’re not going to change and in doing so admit it’s actually subjective.

How about keeping it simple. If there is no separation between the two bodies, (not legs, toes, hair.) Then it's onside. Yesterday's decision (Pigmob again involved in controversy) is not how foot all should be played.
