VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

Palace game.

Var called ref to check yellow on last man tackle - the ref checked monitor and stuck with his view was only a yellow.

Mateta offside flagged off , he was onside. Goal given thanks to var.

3-3 , great game. Best one of season so far. Had it all.
So you didn't hear Palace fan on phone in fantastic game with joy sucked out of it by official checking that the ball is still round instead of enjoying a great game
Var is what everyone was taking about

Off sides are semi automated. nobody has a problem with that, its like goal line tech.... Nonetheless I was talking about major fuckups versus major benefits. Every week major fuckup.

where was the 'major' fuck ups in any of these games yesterday ?

saka would have wrongly been awarded a penalty without VAR intervention, few offside goals correctly not given.

what you can do is point to one every so often contentious or genuine mistake from VAR/Officials and go ballastic and say 'its all a farce' ; 'its ruined the game' and all the other hyperbole.

That was the most entertaining match of the season. VAR didn't ruin it by checking if a player should have had a red.

The weekend hasnt finished yet. The most important and nervy game yet to come for VAR. And surely even you feel it.... Its more likely that VAR will get something wrong than prove how good it is today. ITs the feeling of dread it brings.

The trouble is when West Ham get a ridiculous decision against them what does it really matter? The difference between maybe finishing 13th or 14th in the league? There's no immediate impact on the season so I can understand why you concentrate on the few decisions they get right with it.
When absolutely baffling, indescribably wrong or just plain missing VAR decisions cost you losing an FA Cup Final, getting knocked out of the Champions League, or losing a big derby match, you may begin to understand why people here hate it and the impact it's had on the league, the bottom of the barrel standards of officiating and how VAR has made it so that cheating is now a huge part of how well a team does in a season.
Sure a few decisions are right and people like yourself may think the trade off of a few correct decisions is worth losing the flow, drama and pure joy of celebrating a goal. But when you've lost the joy of the game and it's still getting the kind of wrong decisions it was brought in to correct wrong then what's the point?
If it can't be used to spot a goalkeeper handling the ball outside the box
spot a blatant handball from a defender that leads to a goal for the opposition View attachment 172492
, spot that an offside player is clearly interfering with play despite not touching the ball
View attachment 172493
or can spot that a players heel may be 1mm offside despite the cameras not being quick enough to record this accurately and the wrong frame being used regarding the ball leaving the attacking players foot
View attachment 172494
but during the same match the referee won't be shown the most obvious angle showing a handball goal
View attachment 172495then what is it really good for?
Spotting that a player brushed against Salah which means him throwing himself to the ground as if shot is definitely a penalty as "there's contact so he's entitled to go down?"

In all those pictures its impossible for var to get it wrong. But they did. How ?

Taa clear handball = VAR = No
Rashford clearly interfering = VAR = Not interfering
Aguero on side = VAR = off side.
Spuds clear handball = VAR = not handball
Salah dive = VAR = no dive but shot from the stands penalty.

Did u read what the caller said
It sucked life out of game he lost count of how many var check stopped the game that rereffing the game

one caller. who probably lives in a world of doom and gloom and hates VAR.

vast majority would have walked out game ecstatic at the entertainment.

prior Var, all the calls would be moaning about the ref ruining it. way more than one bloke about var.

I enjoyed the Bournemouth manager's whinge about why he thought the VAR didn't suggest the referee had got the late Palace penalty decision wrong.

He reckons the VAR was still sulking over the referee ignoring his red card recommendation earlier in the game, so couldn't be arsed giving him another chance to ignore him.

I see Dale Johnson, the VAR and laws of the game specialist, has left ESPN for a job with the BBC. Be interesting to see where he pops up.

I could, if I was that bothered point to pretty much most matches where VAR has intervened to correct a wrong decision , it feels like most matches an offside goal is correctly ruled out.

How do you know it's offside? Because VAR says so? Then you need to explain to me why you are so sure the SAOT system works so accurately ....

Van Dijk foul on Brentford player, ref gave free kick. var saw it was inside the area. No doubt Liverpool fans be crying corruption but Brentford would have been denied a penalty there.

Everyone? You don’t half talk unsubstantiated shite.

I’d say the biggest criticism on here was that there wasn’t enough communication between the ref when giving a decision to the fans … so many saying ‘we don’t know what the decision was for’ ‘fans are left in the dark’ etc … now it’s being communicated perfectly just as many were demanding.

So you’ve already gone from “everyone “ to “many”.
Can’t wait for our match on Wednesday. If we score, no fannying around wondering if some **** on VAR searching for any excuse to disallow it. Back of net, no flag, go mental. Just like we used to

Well did everyone not want the refs to communicate the reason for the VAR decision ? Do you not want that ?

No idea your other point.
