VAR Discussion Thread

When City have scored such an important goal, and you've travelled all that way, you shouldn't have to wait for 5 minutes before knowing whether to celebrate, and then get told that the delay was down to VAR not working correctly

Even worse, I wasn't referring specifically to last night's farce
I was describing City's first goal in Gelsenkirchen in 2019 and the subsequent delay

That game was our first experience of VAR and nothing has changed

How much money has been wasted on semi automatic technology just to come up with decisions like that? There were a couple of offsides last night that were obvious but the flag didn’t go up straight away. They are hiding behind technology to avoid dropping clangers and it doesn’t look good .Stones got injured when play continued after a blatant offside a while ago it’s ruined the game

In fairness stones injures himself brushing his hair

I thought that the VAR was working, just that the players were too close for it to be able to differentiate the players involved.
I'm only reporting what the bbc said. Perhaps they are trying to justify the 5 minutes but to me all it does is provide another level of stupidity/corruption.
For a multi million pound business the equipment seems to break down an awful lot.

It took 5 minutes to make a decision last night and now you want 4 blokes stood around discussing it !
All the while the fan in the stand is left cold and ignored.
How about the opposite of what you say, Var have 30 seconds, one minute to decide. If they can't the on field decision stands. No lines, no subjective shite, no semi automated, only working occasionally shite, just a quick decision.

Or just scrap it.
It's a different sport but that review appeared to take 50 seconds total until he had arrived at a decision. The other Ref spoke for 10 seconds of that to give a second opinion.

Personally I would rather scrap the on-field review because what's the point when they hardly ever disagree with a suggestion so might as well get rid of the whole charade.

"No... not for me Jeff" it hardly ever happens.

I can only think that this entire shit-show is a deliberate attempt to have VAR thrown-out for being unfit for purpose.

When that happens, the game can return to the time when match officials and those that control them were able to routinely make decisions in favour of the red cartel so as to enable their continued success and ensure the associated flow of money into the game, and with zero accountability.

An effectively implemented and operated VAR system is the right answer. But those running the game in this country do not want that to happen as it totally diminishes their power and influence over the game.

I wasn't aware of this 5cm tolerance rule until now.
What is it exactly and does it work in favour of the attacker?
Was it used for Newcastle's second goal against us in the league game when the lines drawn seemed to indicate offside?

Not working the way they thought it would.
The " subjective" bit is a real problem.
When they had decided that Haaland was offside, the matter didn't end there.
Was he influencing/ interfering?

It was a decision that nobody appealed for, nobody expected and nobody wanted, but having said that we scored our second goal in the injury time added on whilst taking away our goal so justice was done in the end.
But it could easily have finished 1-1 which is clearly what the officials were hoping for. After all, a 2-0 result makes the second leg much less of a spectacle. Let us see how they treat Arsenal with their scrums at corners.

All it's took is a six minute check and city being diddled out of a goal on national television to make all football journalists huge supporters of VAR. "Correct Decision". "Technically Correct". "How have your club faired with VAR?". We truly live in a post-truth era which is now invading fucking football as well.

Hopefully they will now look more closely at Gabriel & company manhandling defenders at Arsenal corners.

That's years of coaching from Arteta down the toilet, so that's clearly not going to happen, seeing as the arse are well in with PL/PiGMOL.

Var generally ruins active, contact sports.

Cricket, great, doesnt take long.
Tennis, matter of seconds.

Rugby it works better but again it takes away the fun of a try being scored and can take an utter age as they dissect a try

The difference between video frames can be as much as 10cm, so this arbitrary and subjective application of a 5cm tolerance is bollocks and as we've seen applied only when it suits.

Rather VAR was run by a bot than these corrupt fuckers and it wouldn’t take as long for a decision, 90secs should be enough then it goes back to the ref has he’s the man on the pitch
