VAR impact and consequence log - game 27

Every now and then VAR will go against you or any other team for a very marginal decision- there will be the usual ‘corruption’ uproar. But on balance it is by far a much fairer system then a few official being forced into guessing on major decisions. Will still take a few seasons to adjust but at its very early stage we’re seeing no decrease in viewing, attendance and entertainment - aiding officials to get the correct decision should always be the way forward and the authority’s are doing just that, at long last.

There was a page spread in the programme yesterday about when VAR would be used - I was none the wiser reading it.

Thats the issue isn't it, it's supposed to bring clarity to decisions as well as the "correct" decision, and it's failing miserably in both respects. I don't think any true football fan wants these ridiculous decisions where goals are ruled out by a hairsbreadth for offside, or a clearly accidental and unavoidable brush with the arm means a goal scored by someone else is cancelled out.

If I was a Spurs fan then I would be livid about that offside goal, surely in those instances it is too tight to call.
Definitely! He was level in every sense, there’s no way that was offside. If any more than the width of a thread on the sleeve of the shirt being nearer to goal than the defender I’d be surprised.

The offside law when used with VAR is anti- football, anti-goals and favours the defender every time.

If someone has a shot and 99.9% of the ball is over the line but not the whole ball, it’s not a goal. Therefore the whole of the player should be beyond the defensive line in order to be offside. Just like the ball and the line, if any part of the attacker is onside, he is onside.

Spurs fans will be rightly livid, come the end of the season that could be the difference between them winning fuck all again or winning fuck all again!

Watford (h) 4 games in a row VAR has been quiet, one of the best performances I've seen from any team - result 8-0 win
It wasn't absent though, it was used several times to agree with the on field decisions, 1st, 2nd, and 7th were all checked for one thing or another, all decisions correct.

Yesterday we showed how to side step any VAR controversy, just keep scoring, and even yesterday we should have scored more than we did.

Correct.

All correct apart from one word.

Well it might have also finished 8-0.... but the point is, if that goal stands then the rest of the match changes. It's like when a game is 0-0 after 30 mins and both teams have hit the post twice, and a commentator says 'It could be 2-2 this game'. Well it could be, but by the same token, it could be 1-0, 1-1, 0-1, 0-2, 2-0 etc

Wow, uncanny! Got the lottery numbers for Tuesday @smevchenko?
