VAR (PL introduction 2019)

I think someone nailed it earlier.

As soon as they get experienced staff on editing/producing it'll work. Until then the former refs fucking about drawing silly lines to justify their decision will increase delays.

In principle, and if applied properly and consistently, then I’m all for VAR.

However, if it continues in its present form, then we’re not far away from a major incident.

Imagine the last minute of a CL Semi Final 2nd leg, with a 1-1 aggregate score, and the away team destined to progress to the final.

Suddenly, the home team score, but amidst the bedlam, the goal is referred to VAR, and then disallowed, due to an earlier foul that nobody had noticed.

Imagine if that was two English clubs.

Yes hugely. Everyone calling for it. Apart from the officials.

Pat Nevin said the same last night and Kelly Cates was moaning that Anfield and OT don’t have screens. Nevin rightly said that they should and could install them then.
There are Stadiums with no screens?! How do fans watch the game? :)

Have you seen the script for our Semi with the Dippers?
:)

I don't understand what you mean by that. The whole point of VAR is to make sure officials get the key decisions right. Which improves the standard of officiating.

Personally, i'd say keep VAR for 2 types of decisions..
1. Goal review: All goals should be reviewed automatically by a VAR staff, and if they spot a notable incident, then ref should be alerted to do a 1 minute check.

2. Penalty check: Fouls in the box, handballs and dives etc.

And the rule is simple. You make a call on the field, then only overturn that call if there is conclusive proof your decision was wrong.

Yes, there will still be some ref leeway and fans will still debate over some decisions,, but at least now you'd have some consistency.

Best thing since goslline technology in my opinion. :)
good old goslline tehnology, nothing worse than having a legitimate gosle ruled out :)

While the above scenario is possible and potentially painful. Overtime it will be for the overall good of the game.

So what you're saying is "imagine if they get it right"

I think most of us are good with that.

Who cares if it's home or away. Once it's right screw it.

Call me an agenderist (trust me there I such a word) I wonder why it only took 30 seconds to correctly rule out Sanes goal but 2mins. 45 to rule Agueros second was legit. It is as though they were desperate to find a reason why it couldn't be given and in the end had to give up.

Jesus you need to chill man. Sane's was quite easy to see. There was also no furore with players surrounding the ref etc. Some are inevitably quite complicated and some aren't.
