VAR (PL introduction 2019)

5 live after the game, Pat Nevin made a valid point about having experts who can do the editing/replays to speed up the process - that was the thing killing it for me. At the moment, looks like they have ex-ref trying to work Final Cup Pro!

Got all the decisions right again last night and we ended up with one goal more than we would have without it. They just need to speed up the process but I’m sure that will come with time.

luckily var saved an incredible goal, however they really need to pull their fingers out, watching on telly is frustrating waiting for decisions, but at least weve got an idea what we are looking at,at the match the fans don't have a clue, they need to show the incident on the big screens and get the crowd involved.

This.

VAR.
Keeping wankers like Foy,Moss,Dean on the books.

It’s utter shit when your at the ground. Farcical. Thank god for city Wi-fi and blue moon to let us know whether it’s a goal or not

This. Paying your fifty quid to be there and then having to watch a screen to see if it's a goal is fucking ludicrous.

Fucking shite and ruining the game. I noticed the commentators were slating var during the game but changed their tack once the producer had had a word.
And as for inventing a routine whilst waiting for the screen to tell you whether to celebrate or not, go to fuckin baseball or cricket for that shit.

best thing that happened to football since Guardiola decided to become a manager. I seriously think anyone who doesn't like it is bit thick.

I don't give a shit how long it takes as long as decision is right. And it's almost perfectly right each time, unless some decision that has to be viewed differently by different people as rules are not perfect.

Brilliant, brilliant stuff.

Really? How do you work that one out Einstein ?

Absolutely love it.

Last seasons Liverpool farces almost made me walk away from the sport as what's the point in getting emotionally invested only for an idiot or cheater to undermine performances?

Let them take 10 mins per decision if it means the right call is made. They'll get faster and refine it.

I agree more transparency would make sense(micing ref, showing in stadium etc) but this is a great start. Last year we lose 2 of those goals to ineptitude.

Ask players, coaches, doctors and managers if they'd be happy with finely tuned athletes having to stand around in the pissing rain for ten minutes before having to sprint 100 yards or pass a ball across the pitch.

Think the way uefa\fa are fucking around with it that it needs a cap say 60 secs initially coming down to 30 secs, if it takes longer than that its not clear and oblivious and original decision applies. I guess the only exception would be the ref viewing pitch side monitor incidents which should be linked to the big screens to avoid or the cloak and dagger conspiracy theories.

The problem isn't VAR per se.

The problem is the huge variance of rule interpretation within refs.

And tbh, the problem is the low standard of English match officials.

I said before, waiting for a VAR decision can be fun, if you want. Moaners will just moan.
Sure it will have to be quicker, but waiting for a correct and fair decision should be worth it for the while.

I don't know what takes so long with the offside calls? They are matters of fact. the technology draws the line, presumably the technology says whether on/off-side, so why the delay?
