Also obvious dives , so unfair on the ref to be conned by cheating players - now VAR will make them think twice and it will be sweet justice when the next Salah dive he gets punished for diving instead of being awarded a penalty.

If its like the woman's world cup they will use minuscule contact visible on sl mo to justify the pen, i actually think the likes of salah will dive more and get rewarded more. The contact = foul business has to stop or twats like this will exploit to silly levels.

Good point, I just wish it could go back to being a contact sport, it's getting to the stage where you literally cannot touch an opponent, even while tackling.... The game is being systematically dismantled to the point where it won't be worth watching in 20 years time ....

I agree that it's an issue and could do with redressing. The difference between full contact wrestling at corners and a nudge is curious.

I see the IFAB report has been used in defence of VAR. Whilst it does say accuracy of calls has increased it also says...

... checking whether players were offside was the "one of the more difficult tasks" encountered by VAR.

"The exact pitch dimensions, including any physical camber on the field as well as distortions of the camera lenses, make it very difficult for a virtual line to be drawn that accurately represents a true straight line as it would be physically drawn across the field."

Let’s go back to refs guessing and when they get it wrong we all call them corrupt and moan how they ruined the game !

While I see what you mean, that doesn't say can't be reliable, just that it's more difficult.

And VAR won’t brake football. A small minority will turn away and a lot of hot air will be made out of it - other than that, we’re getting a fairer game and it still provides entertainment- as someone previously mentioned in a few years it will be the norm and there won’t be any discussion to get rid of it.

Yeah it's all there in hello's post. The technology currently can't possibly tell us if someone is offside within 24cm let alone 2cm.
