VAR (PL introduction 2019)

The technology they use is not reliabe enough to make accurate decisions

It will kill the natural celebrations when a goal is scored

It slows the game down and it's use draws away attention from the match itself

The 'clear and obvious error' definition will only create a world of grey area, simply because it's use within that definition itself will be highly debated

Its use will mostly be for line ball decisions that NO ONE really wants looked at instead of the howlers it's intended for, because after all, we've got an unnattainable goal to achieve 'consistency'

It will undermine the on field officials causing them to second guess, and decrease their confidence in making calls

It will turn fans off the game. FIFA have been bent and useless as fuck since as long as I can reminder, but for so long the one they were right on was their reluctance to introduce big brother technology in officiating

Yep for all his ills at least Platini understood the consequences of VAR. Casual football watchers and American audiences will know doubt love it, personally I think it will take the beauty away from the sport.

Fell out of with little love I had for VAR after spurs game in CL, football is about emotions and if you take that out of the game then you're doing game a disservice.

VAR is an emotion killer especially for fans in the ground.

On the VAR goal that was given, how poor was the freeze framed picture, you could see all the players perfectly bar some ghost like shape that was Sterling sprinting clear, this is why the goal was given imo, he looked more offside than the first one but in the still picture he was just a blur, how could they objectively measure that?

With reference to the retaken penalty. This was retaken because VAR correctly identified that an encroaching player had direct impact on the result?

eg rice was first to the rebound to clear. VAR uses same technology to determine finite decision on encroachment as it does on offside.eg It is factual

In the EPL, encroachment by a goalkeeper at a penalty, will and can only be awarded by the referee aided by an onfield assistant. VAR is not utilised?

This is obviously significant difference to Champions League where VAR will review both outfield and goalkeeper encroachment as factual decision?

So in effect, in a close title or relegation deciding EPL game, the VAR camera and official system can decide whether to confirm or deny a penalty

is awarded by barest mm eg was the foul or handball in or outside the box. They will then, as happened yesterday, decide whether encroachment by

an outfield player had a direct impact. However, if the goalkeeper saves the penalty and there is no outfield player encroachment but goalkeeper does

encroach but this is missed or not given by the referee, then the penalty will not be retaken. If EPL is so confident of how and where VAR can draw the

line, on a consistent basis on all other factual decisions, why does it consider it beneficial to give onfield referee this decision, particularly as it doesnt

give a referee any say on the other factual goal/no goal decision, eg goal line technology decision? If it's important to utilise VAR for all other factual

decisions to ensure we get the correct decision, why is it less important to ensure we consistently get correct decision on goalkeeper encroachment?

It needs improving for the match going fan. Use the screens to show the incident from multiple angles and play the referee discussion with VAR officials (they need to be miked up). It could be made to work but it will take a while to be accepted in its current format, particularly by match going fans.
