VAR (PL introduction 2019)

If his shirt was pulled why didnt he go backwards. He dived, the game has been going soft for a long time. Your'e 2-0 up, the other team score. 10 mins to go. Guarantee that you contest the decision to allow time to regroup and dont allow the other team the momentum. Maybe we wouldnt have had "99" and "93.20" if var was in. Youre at the swamp, and you need an equaliser. You score, and then you wait 3 mins to celebrate. Forget the moments we had with Curle's pen, Uwe's chip, Brightwell's screamer, Benjani. More sanitisation of the game we used to love.

If you want any proof that VAR is controversial in the extreme and it could be influenced by "certain teams" I've just seen Napoli awarded a penalty for a Bologna player slightly touching a Napoli player with his hand, and I mean a slight touch, disgraceful. The commentators are still talking about it three minutes later. I know Napoli is the home of the Camorra but it really is going to be a blight on football. The fact Napoli are at home and were only drawing and not playing well means this could have a huge influence on the Italian league.. VAR needs fucking off sooner than later.

As with all new tech, it will take time to acclimatise, for players refs and fans. I thought the use of it in the Liverpool game was correct, and added to the spectacle.
If it stops players blatantly pulling opponents in the box, then it's a good thing.

It won't.

It will just mean the players & crowds who exaggerate it best, get the decisions (or the ones which suit the betting syndicates who can then control the outcome of every football game).

Agreed. Was the ball in play when the push happened?

Yes, Barry is stood upright in front of the keeper when the ball is kicked & receives a strong push in the back (blatant pen) then leans back & is pushed again.

None of the officials bothered to consider it as it was all about Liverpool & not about deciding on the incident.

That's one they've missed then in your eyes. So regardless of the legality within the rules of the game of having Barry standing there (for no other reason than to obstruct the keeper i.e. No attempt to play the ball) which I've already made a point about, why do you think throwing out the technology is a better option than dragging both refs in tomorrow morning and reviewing it with them, pointing out where in the rules of the game they got it wrong (if they did).

Barry is allowed to stand there. No rule says a player can't stand in front of the goalkeeper. The goalkeeper is not allowed to foul him, nor vice versa.

Because the ref, the video ref, the tv ref, Steve Macmanaman, Gerrard & indeed a load of City fans, have already said it's perfectly ok.

So they will get a pat on the back, for being wrong, just as they would helping Real Madrid in a Champ's League final v City.

They will only get told off, if it ever works the other way round.

I'll ignore Mc pointy and the other ****, but he isn't, if the keeper tries to move and Barry is in his way. That's why you don't see it happening in the CL, at international level or in other leagues. The PL refs don't even allow it in Europe, because they know it's illegal. It's an attitude that really needs to change in England.
