VAR (PL introduction 2019)

This will be the cliche for a while before the dust settles and attendances, viewing figures and the sport in general has not been hampered one bit.
It will be a different game , you go with this new game or you want the game we all fell in love with to remain the same , non of us know how it will ultimately work out but we all have our own ideas but it will change the game .

Nobody at any ground will be able to 'watch' the decision. Unless you mean stare at a screen that says VAR REVIEW for 5 minutes, waiting for the words to change to GOAL.
However, if you're sat at home or in a pub you will be able to watch the process from every angle including an 'over the ref's shoulder' one. Smart eh?
I thought that the new rule was for everyone in the ground being able to see a video of the final decision. Probably that would be a still of the offside or goalline was it over/wasn't it. For the clear and obvious error decisions eg violent conduct are they going to show the still of a headbutt or a right hook being thrown? Sometimes you need a few seconds of playback to reach a decision, for me we should be seeing the same footage that the TV watchers are getting. Whether it's live or on the couch we are all paying for it in some way so only seems fair. Like I've said before I think the table will take a different look because of VAR so I'm not waging anything on team places. Possibly number of pens awarded over the course of the whole season could be interesting?

My understanding is that replays will be shown after the decision, but only where the on-field decision is overturned.
I don't think it will be shown when the decision is upheld.

My guess would be that violent conduct won't be shown, but poor challenges being upgraded from yellow card to red card will be.

After a bit of googling i stand corrected; According to reports 'some' replays will be shown and, get this, there'll be an app so info can be sent to your phone to watch.

Can you list them then? I have seen some and the number 11 being banded around but never seen a list ( unless its all just exaggeration?)
God no, i can't even remember what happened in our games from months ago,it was game after game, all showed at the time with the usual well it was just offside by the commentary except the milner one which was several feet, hopefully with VAR they won't get them

how can (clear and obvious mistake) be 1cm or 2cm offside and you have to let them go for the good of the referee or why else is the there

thinking about it from last season and the cup games and europe the ref is going to be useless and will be using VAR for everything in the premier league, even in the friendly game vs wolves sterling was fouled twice in the box and if (VAR) was in play pen for city and also city asked for pen for hand ball by the wolves player in the box again if (VAR) was in play pen to city even a stone wall red card for a foul on B.silva ?? that is 3 major plays in a friendly game so good luck with VAR in the premier league

How many times, there's no clear and obvious on offsides/goal line decisions. Its either off or on / over the line or not.

Too much needless use. If the refs can't use the courage of their convictions, the game is fucked.

Not sure about that. After 6 games last season, there was an article where it showed the league table would have been different if VAR had been introduced! Liverpool most likely would have dropped 4 points over 2 games at West Ham (Offside goal given) & Tottenham (Stone wall pen not given). And we'd of secured 3 points at Wolves after the Bony handball / offside goal cost us 2 points there...

So a 6 point swing in 6 matches. All decisions wrong, all against us. And Liverpool benefitted from this type of "uplift" for the remainder of the season with offside goals and dives resulting in loads of undeserved points. How any blue wont give VAR a chance to see if it improves things from the shocking current corrupt state of play is bizarre...

so every single time a chance is made by a team its going to check for offside, and when it goes out for a corner from a save or off a player and not a goal they will over rule and bring it back ???? because the players was offside in the first place ?? nope

VAR is just a tool for the higher up officials to use and give advantage to the bigger teams, and we have seen already man city being done over and not shown the right replays to the match officials , i hold no hope for VAR and i will be a mess within weeks

No, not every time a chance is made, is it going to be checked by VAR. How can people get this so wrong so often. Goals, penalties, straight red cards and mistaken identity are the 4 areas!! The current system favours the Cartel and has done for years. You maybe right and it wont actually improve things, but its the only chance we have right now. To not even give it a chance is weird for me! But each to their own I guess!!

Time and time last season my club would have had decisions go our way with Var in ........But honestly I hope it's never brought into our level ........How the hell can you go mad at scoring a late winner when at the back of your mind Var could take it away from you

Don't get me wrong it will get it right but it's gonna take a lot of emotion out of the game

i think the thing you are missing is from that corner the other team score but it should not have been a corner because the player was offside in the first place, this is the cross over in VAR that will kill the fans and people in football because the offside should have stood

VAR is not the problem for me its the people running it and how the replays are picked to show the match official, yes i know its the time scale of watching all the replays ?? but you have to get the right decision if you have stopped the game and know matter how long it takes its got to be right or why bother with VAR, last season involving man city vs spurs the wrong replay was shown to the referee and VAR got it wrong that's the problem i have

you can not have a system in place if VAR gets it wrong ?? its got to be 100% correct or why bother stopping the game to say to the ref i think you got it wrong ??, the fans will want 100% correction and VAR can not fuck up and get it wrong, that's trouble in the making

I agree with regards to the intent of use, but we've seen a different reality. I've seen them pull play back to something that happened on the other side of the pitch as an excuse. It will never be an objective interpretation. Once you grasp the corruption In the game, you'll better understand the reasons. We just have to get on with it. Doesn't mean that it's not a sham.

For VAR reasons alone I’m not sure if I’m excited about the season or not. Hate the thing. Football for me is all about the decisions. Some bad some good. Controversy will be over and it will become a cynical black and white game imo based upon holding the game up every time there looks something dodgy

So just like now then, hasn't killed the fans to date. It wont fix every error, it never intended too. However, it will fix the vast majority of decisions it gets involved in and has the potential to be significantly better than the existing corrupt system.

I agree, it should be completely transparent. Liverpool/Rags replays wont be shown, and that is a disgrace. But I believe that will change. The Spurs handball was poor, no argument there. If those type of instances continue to happen then it will have to be addressed! Let's hope lessons have been learned!

Don't agree. It will give a significant improvement over the current flawed/corrupt system. It wont ever correct 100% of decisions, to think it will is unfair partly due to the subjective nature of some decisions and the old human error/misapplication of the rules which will still happen on occasion. However, the 6 point swing against City in the first 6 games of last season, where Liverpool gained 4 points they didn't deserve and we lost 2 points away at wolves to a goal which was both offside and handball will be eradicated! VAR should level the playing field considerably against the current joke of a system.
