VAR (PL introduction 2019)

the World Cup VAR use was so demonstrably impressive that it has to come now. Just like goal line tech. The biggest thing will be offside - they will call it on the margins more often and it will be solved. They will also call the pens more frequently and those will be adjudicated swiftly one way or the other. It will favor attacking sides, which is also the whole point for the continued growth of the sport (whether you like that aspect or not).

Every sport in the world is finding ways to make teams to score more. But I think it’s natural/organic, not sinister. Not judging, just saying. Life itself favors offense...the neurons are triggered by things that happen, not by those that don’t.

I think it was Fahrenheit 451 that first really best distilled a world in which attention spans would command shorter and shorter bursts of information/sensation. That book knew twitter before it could have scarcely been imagined. Here, have a goal!

No it’s isnt. It’s not one person nor do they rely on Sky/BT. They have access to all camera feeds. Haven’t you seen the VAR monitor banks?

VAR is only there to help the referee and at the end of the day its down to him ?? and they can only bring it to the ref attention and ask him to look at it again and that is the hook, the power should never be taken out of the hands of the referee and VAR is only really for vital and clear mistakes and things like handballs and fouls can be a minefield to interpreted as clear intent, yes for off sides and in or out of the box but for anything else good luck with that

It's took them years but they now dictate the days games are played and kick off times. My cynical opinion they will eventually want some sort of control. It's their product also.
But it literally makes no sense.

They are the broadcaster, they are not the officials. They don’t pick and choose what the VAR officials see as the VAR officials have access to every camera angle and half a dozen blokes looking at 20 cameras.

VAR will not work and will need a revamp before to long? ?? how can you judge somebody deliberately handle the ball or deliberately fouled somebody from a video clip and again i revert back to the world cup when you seen 2 VAR for handball and clearly wrong ?? the ball can hit your arm or hand and not be handball and you can tackle and not be a foul
this is where VAR is wrong and does not work for me

yes for in or out of the box or offside or a clear error made by the ref who missed something in the game but for handball or fouls its going to be a joke

It is going to be for straight reds, goals and any offences in the build up and i forget the other bit,how can you right off a whole system on your 2 examples and not all that it has got right from it's first use in the spain v france game,it has more than proved it's worth

The good news is VAR will give sides who play fast , intricate , exciting football decisions that they otherwise would not get in the main.

It will also help the poor refs and there are many in the premiership at present albeit the game is a bit too fast now for a single ref and a couple of linesmen.
