VAR Thread - 2021/22

Simple question, did you enjoy football more before VAR? I know I did.

Football pre VAR was sometimes annoying ..like when you got dodgy decisions that you were pretty sure were wrong but you accepted it..
Now we score a goal and instinctively celebrate only for a few seconds later to start looking at the screen at the ground to see if it's being varred..
It was introduced as a help to rectify clear and obvious errors..fuck off ..how can it be clear and obvious if it takes them a few minutes to decide that some players armpit hair was off..
It's being used in a very obvious way to influence results in my opinion..last week the Brighton player was offside in the build up but according to the prick on var it was in previous phase of play to the goal..if that was against the rags or the dippers it would have been disallowed.
Var or its use is sucking all the enjoyment of watching football nowadays..

OK, here's one for you and its nothing to do with us.
Villa v West Ham. A Villa player clearly elbows a player in the face to stop him getting past. Ref nothing vreviewed by var nothing. BUT the seconds later the second defender appears to foul the attacker. He was outside the box not heading for goal, reviewed, red card as he was deemed to be in a goal scoring position !!! It's as though they were just making it up as they go along......oh they were!!! Ah that explains it.

I have couple of issues with the offside decision by VAR, firstly I'm struggling to see what part of Foden's anatomy lines up with the red line, there seems to me to be a gap netween a perpendicular from Foden's knee and the line. Surely the goal side of the line should be level with Foden's knee. Equally if you take a perpendicular from the outside of the Palace player's shoulder it looks to be ahead of the blue line. It is still probably just offside but as others have said this frame is just after the ball has been kicked. The camera angle doesn't allow you to see when the ball is first touched. From the camera used to broadcast the game I'd say the ball is maybe a few inches away from the foot.View attachment 29060
If we look at the previous frame where the foot is probably still in contact with the ball Foden's knee is not so far advanced and I'd say he is level at worst. Law 11 states that the first point of contact with the ball should be used and that doesn't seem to be the case here. Certainly within the margin of errors for the technology.View attachment 29061

anybody got a screen shot of the VAR offside decision against Foden. I know they showed it at the game, i just wanted another look as to how close it was, as i thought they were allowing marginal offsides where the lines touched. Cheers

Thanks Cassandra, FWIW I agree with your analysis. Its where they stop the frame that counts more in these VAR offside decisions.
